Hicap with CDX2 or 52?

Posted by: Mr_Sukebe on 04 February 2004

I'm just considering some longer term upgrade options.
In the nearish future, I'll probably be looking at both a CDX2 and a 52. Initially I planned to add them bare, then worry about the *capping later. The question is whether my existing hicap would be either compatible or useful with either.

Any thoughts? Clearly the right option is the XPS and supercap, but lets work on the assumption that the cash for that is simply not available initially.

Hi Mr_Sukebe

Unfort you can't use a hi-cap on either a CDX2 or a 52. The CDX2 requires an XPS or XPS2 and the 52 a Supercap or Supercap2.

Jay,

Thanks for that, good to know.
If anything, actually makes the buying decision even easier, as I get to clear the hicap as well as the CDP/pre amp whilst going through the upgrade. On top of that, I was running out of space on the rack.

What is your amp?
Keep in mind that the 52 will work only with a supercap.
...so may be your only choice is to go for the CDX2.
You could also purchase a 82. The 82 can be powered by a hicap or a supercap or by any Naim amp except 250 and up. But I suggest at lest a hicap.

I think Jay forgot to mentioned that the CDX2 can work very nicely without any power supply, and doesn't require an XPS. The XPS can be a later on upgrade.
I hope this will help

Mr Sukebe

Do you have a Vinyl source?
If you do a stageline will sound absoulutely great when driven by a HiCap.

Just a thought to bear in mind when the CDX2 arrives.
