An interest to me as i'm sure you can imagine, a great day for those that have given their time and money - they must all be feeling very proud and quite rightly so, a wonderful achievement Smile

Agreed - I saw the loco on the news this morning and it looked awesome. Interestingly, although it has been built exactly according to the original 1948 plans, it's been fitted with a number of modern electrical gizmos, including an OTMR, or 'black box' in other words, which appears now to be a standard required fitting for any locomotive to achieve certification to run on the UK main line.

JonR,

You are quite correct..it would also be fitted with AWS, TPWS and a drivers vigilance (dead mans handle).

What does 'on time' mean?
We use words like 'late' and 'delayed' nowadays!

Fantastic. My Dad is a big fan of steam engines and used to sit listening to LPs of them for hours being played on the LP12!

Absolutely wonderful.

We get the odd steam engine going through our village and they are a beautiful site. You feel the rumble in the ground as they approach and that's the time to run to the front garden to wave at the drivers. Brings out the kid in you.

I wonder if a highly efficient steam powered locomotive with Twenty-first Century design technology will ever come.

I might do, and it would be great to see the end of those horrible deisel coaches all joined together with separate engines in each on the non-electirfied lines.

It is superb to see that we still have the engineers capable of making such as the Tornado, even as a one off! A tremendous achievement for all concerned from the fund-raisers to the actual craftsmen...
