CD5 stopped responding to remote

Posted by: woody on 27 May 2003

My week-old CD5 has just stopped responding to remote - playback fine and front panel buttons work no problem. I've seen a post on this before - what was the solution (I switched it off and on again after a few seconds which seemed to fix it but is this the solution)?

Thanks,

Andrew

Just played a disk, removed it, put in another and same thing...is it knackered? (it's not a huge deal as I can use the buttons but a bit - well, annoying!) Frown

(oh yeah, and the remote works fine with the NAIT)

Try turning it off for 5 to 10 minutes and see if this sorts it. I recall reading a thread about the microprocessor needing this time to reset itself. Hope this helps.

will do...i'll leave it off for 10 mins and retry. I'll post results here but i've powered it off for a couple of minutes and nothing...I can't imagine why 5-10 minutes with no power is different for a processor than 2 minutes but I'm willing to try. Otherwise I'll have to contact the dealer Frown

just had a thought actually - CD5 is powered from FC2...do I have to turn this off as well? And presumably the NAIT which is also powered by FC2? So basically switch whole lot off? If so :

a. what's correct sequence for doing this?
b. how long do I have to wait for it to be back to normal as system has just started sounding sweet

I have 2 remotes - one that came with the nait and one that came with the CD5...I've tried them both with the batteries that came in the packages for each. No joy - even switched CD player off and disconnected FC2 input. Still no joy Frown

RE: microprocessor reset - it isn't enough to power the cdp down, it has to be disconnected from the ac line too.

Big Grin

I've done this one - wondered why the remote stopped working, pressed CD Input and voila, worked for me.

Done all this although when I disconnected the FC2 I didn't unplug from the mains, just switched it off on the rear switch. Will this make a difference? I'll retry with new batteries.

Any joy yet Woody?
Is the new system coming on song?
Mine is sounding fab, I almost don't want to go out tonight with friends!

Is Naim the only way forward?

System sounding FABBO - got to crank the volume a bit yesterday and just sat there with a huge grin...just this bleedin' remote thing to sort out (still haven't got round to trying new batteries)...It's weird, NAIT working fine. CD5 = nothing. Powered everything off yesterday as I'd seen in another post and upon powering it all up again it worked - but nothing again this AM. Could it be the batteries? hmm...I'll post here.

hmm...appears to be power-on sequence.
I think before I was doing FC2->Nait->CD5.
Just put brand spanking new batteries in. Left of for 10 minutes.
Powered on, according to another thread:
CD5->FC2->Nait. Remote is now working. It has worked before and stopped overnight so I'll post an update so, in case anyone else has this problem, they'll know what to do. For now, Smile (although I'll see in a few days).
Sorry if I'm being boring!

The unit is going back to Naim - apparently it may be a "chip issue". So I'm getting a replacement on Thursday. Thanks Pat@Billy Vee for sorting that one out.

Good luck Woody, hopefully this will be the end of the problems and the beginning of Audio Nirvana Wink
