Live Tilt/Drift shows

Posted on: 07 July 2008 by Guido Fawkes
Thanks - seriously thinking about getting tickets, but who'll sing the songs - perhaps it'll be a sing-a-long-a-scott night. Tilt is an amazing record and The Drift is almost as good.

You can buy Tilt at Amazon for under £3 - VFM or what, you'll never hear another record like it.

From what I've heard of him (admittedly not a lot) he not singing, them not playing anything and me not going would be fine.
What a strange man he is! (Me too I guess).

Only slightly more bizzare than going to a kareoake Sound of Music showing.

Scott is a great bloke - he just doesn't make it easy on himself, I guess it is all those plastic palace people he's met over the years who called him jackie in copenhagen doing the funeral tango, where the old man's back again and dedicated to the neo-stalinist regime, and on track three we find the cockfighter and the farmer in the city or i'll punch a donkey in the streets of galway and yet in the end we must ask and who shall go to the ball and what shall go to the ball.

In the last couple of years I've collected nearly every recording I could by Scott Walker and I have to say No Regrets.

Totally unique and quite the best male vocalist I've ever heard - not many male vocalist I like (notable others are Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, Richard Sinclair, Graham Bonnet and the good Captain).

When I first heard Tilt I didn't know if I liked it, but I did know I wanted to listen again and give it a chance. It was immediately apparent Scott had stopped going through the motions (his late 70s output) and was trying to create something more adventurous. Scott is more influenced by Sibelius than R&B so that is immediately appealing to somebody like me - brought up on folk, psych and elp.

please click here for Track 3 and it may be your way in to this unique talent and 30th Century Man
