If so, what is it like?

Bits are still growing on me. Bits aren't. His voice is sublime on some tracks and digitally massacred on others. There is nothin on it as strong as his best stuff, and even the best moments on the OVO album for me.

I really like it - I think it's his best studio album since 'Four'. He sings really well and the mixes aren't as dense and dull as the last album. Some vocal references to 'The Lamb' are a nice touch and it all sounds very contempory without being a pastiche.
I'm rather pleased. It is a slow burner.

"No Way Out" has taken over the lead in the "song that's been utterly burned into my brain and won't stop playing, 2002" list, and I've been playing the CD a helluva lot. Haven't had any issues with the sound, and as for comparisons with other PG stuff, it's simply yet another great album.

Well I have just bought it.. Only had one listen on someone elses system , but it seems fabulous to me. Lots of new ideas with new technologies. Also it doesn't sound like a 'rock' album. His voice sounds fantastic, and with darker tinges in the music it is indeed very interesting.
Definately a slow burner, and with top musicians on board too..
I like!! Hopefully he will do a tour at somepoint.
Cheers

...from Sainsbury's of all places (£9.99). Popped it on when I got back, cranked up the volume and...the dog nearly shat itself. Similar effect to QOTSA 'Songs for the Deaf'.
Enjoyed it a lot nevertheless.

He's just done a few warm up show, and according to Tony Levin's diary at
http://www.tonylevin.com the band is now undergoing technical rehearsals for the main tour. Tony will be posting confirmed dates at his site as soon as he has them.
Haven't seen PG in concert before, and am really hoping he visits Scotland...

I've just recieved mine on vinyl.
I never realised this album would be pressed by "Classic Records". What a beautiful pressing. 200grams of pure silent quality and in very nice packaging.
It's strange that all the "music lovers" on this forum are happy to buy it on cd.

You do not have to own a turntable to be a music lover. And vice versa.
Not sure what you were driving at.

Bruce,
It seems just about everyone who has made a comment about the new PG album in two different threads has a LP12.
Why do they buy the CD?
The ultimate source for sound reproduction is vinyl. (and no, I'm not getting into an argument about CD v vinyl)

I think it's a good album to test your system. This LP should give you something even if you don't rave about PG.
There's plenty of deep bass sounds which drive the lightly dampened drive units on my Obelisks, wild. It really does sound different to the usual LP.
I wonder if people's systems are letting them hear the the full effect of the tracks.
The more I listen, the better it gets.

Hi Count. Did you get the Classic Records 'delux' version with die-cut sleeve and 7" single, or the 'standard' version? - If it's the former, where did you get it from? (I want one!)
Have you heard any of the Classic Records issues of his other albums yet? - I bought 'PG1' at the weekend. Absolutely superb!

Tim,
I have the "standard" vinyl. I bought it from hmv.co.uk. I didn't know there was a deluxe version.
The Peter Gabriel 1 on Classic Records is superb, the Gabriel 2 and 3 are to be released soon.
Vivante will usually have this type of record in stock when they're released.

Your perogative, of course, but you seem to be more interested in hi-fi than in music...
But in any case, since the master tapes are not cut to vinyl, but made on, errr, tape, it stands to reason that the highest generation of reproduction will be playback of the master tape itself. And you can't do that on a turntable, so it stands to reason that you're wrong.
As regards CD vs. vinyl, the best comment I've seen was on the original naim forum, I've forgotten who from. It went along the lines of, "so you're happier with the inaccuracies inherent in analogue reproduction to the inaccuracies inherent in digital reproduction".
IIRC JV's opinion was that it was more about the care put into whichever format that would determine which, if either, would sound more like music. In some cases that's silver discs, in some cases black. But the tape should be better than either as you haven't had a chance to lose (or accidentally add) anything extra yet (noticed how naim record many discs direct to two track tape and don't subsequently edit it?).
Pete.

This must be why I very rarely read or write anything on the "Anorak Corner"

What hifi have you got?
Interested. I'm not being critical, even if I do normally prefer vinyl.
I have two: an RCA Victrola and a molecular chip player plugged directly into my auditory nerve. Love them both.
