Uniti Firmware update and itouch application

Posted by: Develyn on 26 January 2010

Any news when a Uniti firmware update will be released or if there is an itouch/iphone application in development?

Surely someone from Naim has an update to provide Uniti owners. Please advise.

And gapless playback?! Sorry, Steven. Couldn't resist! We wouldn't nag if we didn't care!

Hi,
just curious. How will the new firmware be applied? Will it be a naim dealer or will we be able to download ourselves and apply. Will it be done via USB? Will in future could the updates be done via the very basic webgui already available on the uniti? Might be the best method as the uniti is connected to the LAN/WiFi. So many questions.

I use an app called Songbook with my Linn DS-I. This app can be used with the HDX (settings for it the app), and could perhaps be used with Uniti as well?

It's a two-stage update process in general, the first of which requires a PC with a DB-9 serial port; the second is browser-script based and is relatively painless.

That said-I'd have a retailer perform the update process, just to be safe.

Seen this working well at my dealer on an HDX - but £49.99 on the App store!

Its only the thought of ripping all those CDs again that stops me looking at the Linn as an alternative. Foolish me should have ripped them to the NAS in the first place and then I could be free of the endless wait for Naim updates.

I'm sure this has been asked before but what is the reason why none of the Naim devices will stream over ALAC files?

its out there contact your retailer for more info.

NaimUniti Updates to Hi-Res
February 2010. Naim has released a significant update for the award-winning NaimUniti.

The update will be obtainable only by taking your player(s) to your Naim retailer. Owners should make an appointment to have the update applied, and the process should take less than half-an-hour. All the NaimUniti units shipped in February have included the latest code. This shows as Version 2.00.00 when checking the Uniti status screen.

The key upgrade is the support for 24-bit/96kHz (and 24/88.2) playback of WAV and FLAC files including fixed point 24- and 32-bit files as well as 32-bit floating point variants. Playback of files with a sampling rate above 48kHz is not suggested if using a wireless connection – it may work well but performance cannot be guaranteed.

An additional feature of the update is the enabling of the radio preset to work on any input, a feature requested by existing NaimUniti owners. The update also includes minor updates to improve performance and consistency of performance together with Unicode support giving greater support to Chinese and Cyrillic character sets. This can be a significant benefit when listening to Chinese, Russian, and other esoteric internet radio stations.
