As a die hard Makem whose team (and mine) goes up and down the first two divisions like an elevator in the 'Empire State Building' maybe you could give Scottyhammer a few tips

ive been a hammer for over 37 years and seen them go up n down like a yo yo and do know very well what it means and feels like thanks very much! i blame the PLAYERS and nobody else not even pardew - he did his best as far as im concerned - and perhaps got a raw deal. but you cant just sit and watch as the team nosedive towards the championship. at least the new owners cant! its the same problem down at upton park, they never build on success. they just sit on their laurels and expect the same next season.
it happened in 86 when finishing 3rd and it happened last year too.
its got to the point that im affraid its inevitable now that we wont be in the premiership next season, i hope charlton are as they are playing with belief and passion-which we are not! and therefore deserve the reward.
perhaps losing £50m will shake them out of it and bounce straight back up. who knows ?

..Re West Ham ...Ok I admit it ...this season I REALLY want West Ham to go down ..given NUFC are (unfortunately) unlikely to and Leeds are already down
There's not really another team I'm too bothered about.
The strange thing is for years I rather liked the A'mmers ...I well remember the perfectly observed silence at Roker Park when Bobbie Moore died (and the standing ovation we gave him after it finished) I'm also old enough to have seen the famous Hurst, Peters, Moore, team (and remember THAT 8-0 drubbing when Hurst scored 6!
Now however as has already been mentioned here the national Media's apparent obsession with WH has led them to be many neutrals choice of relegated Prem club.
The column inches given to them is out of all proportion to their status and has everything to do with their geographical location.
I also accept they probably have more genuine WHU fans than say Chelsea (who regulary had sub 20.000 gates in the 80's/90's)I know those fans can't help how the media portray their club but it is souring their image with neutrals.
So to the real WHU fans I'd say sorry folks but....no tears shed here I'm afraid.

jet,
i understand where your coming from BUT as you say the media attention is not the fans doing and we cannot help where we are born or brought up! so ill use the same logic as you and hope that sunderland dont come up because i dont like the newspapers going on about roy keane and its too cold up north and they talk differently.
makes perfect sense ! no ?

I hope the Hammers stay up, as Scotty says none of this is the fans' fault and they don't attract 'glory hunters' like others do.
If only there was a chance that Chelsea and Arsenal could go down! That I would like to see!

Arsenal relegated - now that would be interesting. Of course, we know Man U were turned over by Southend, so if they were ever relegated then League One would beckon.
I want to see West Ham stay up; they loaned us a good player. They didn't nick half our team like some other side I could mention.

i tell you what ROTF, ipswich should make a bid for mark noble who i think has the making of a very good player.
hes not getting in the side for some strange reason unknown to us all - so i think he would love the chance to play regularly.

Plymouth Argyle through to the quarters of the FA cup.
does this make them better than all the premiership clubs who failed to get this far?

Yes, because so far they have beaten Derby, Barnet and Peterborough, all of whom are riding high in the Premiership table.

Yes - it does. I hope they win it. I hope they don't get Mr Bennett as referee.
Notice we (ITFC) and Plymouth got the last two slots on Match of the Day. I thought the other matches had already been on - fortunately I didn't see MOTD Live; but unfortunately saw my team deprived of a place in the quarter finals by Mr Bennett.

Good to see the Norwich owner stay sober despite the loss...maybe they could have done with a half time speech?
I dread who Plymouth draw next....I hope its a big club at Home Park.

rotf,
how you lost that game ill never know and as you say the ref was poor to say the least.
lady luck seems to be avoiding our clubs this season. perhaps its fate that we shall collide next season. lets hope we finish as top 2, in which order im not fussed !!

Ian Holloway's Plymouth meet Watford at Home Park in a repeat of the 1984 semi-final, won by the Hornets. "We're delighted with anybody at home. They've got the travelling and our fans can come out and celebrate. All I want to do is give them a hell of a game. Watford will get themselves out of where they are in the league and their team is epitomised by never ever giving up."
Watford forward Tommy Smith believes victory at Argyle can help the club's bid for Premiership survival. He said: "Most clubs want to avoid the bigger clubs so we're fairly pleased with the trip to Plymouth. We didn't play brilliantly in the last round and Ipswich gave us a tough time. I think the cup run has helped though. It gives you a bit of momentum that you can carry from the cup into the league."
Just make sure they don't bring Steve Bennett with them.

I'd be happy with that, but
a) you're not down and there are still games to be won
b) you have a much stronger team than us and some money - Neil, Upson, Ashton we dream of such players and you'll have them all back soon

Still if it does happen then we'll give you a decent game.

Argyle are more than happy to play Watford who are only one place above Derby...in effect!
Replay of 1984...I hope not.

The Plymouth v Watford game is a fantastic opportunity for both clubs.
Although I would expect the winner will draw Chelsea in the semis.

It was nice of Chelsea to loan us one of our goalscorers.
Not sure what they would make of a game down here. Home Park can be a bear pit.

They could draw the winners out of Reading v West Brom or Blackburn

Wahay, Argyle won 3-0 on Tuesday.

1-1 against Plymouth. At least it's a point and we don't get those too often. Nice to see Ollie back at Loftus Rd, too.

QPR goal was dodgy...
quote:Plymouth manager Ian Holloway:
"I would not have complained that much had QPR won, but I didn't like the goal they scored.
"The referee should have disallowed it. Everyone in the ground could see it was a foul on our goalkeeper.
"The ref got that one wrong, but QPR deserved at least a point."

Mark - any chance you could let us have the points next week. we're getting desperate.
All of our sides seem to be struggling - I don't believe in the too good to go down, especially as we're not too good in any case. We play nice football, of course, but we don't score any goals.
