The Brits - Dangerous?

Posted by: Shayman on 15 February 2007

That unfunny arse with the stupid hairdo has been telling us all week how dangerous the Brit Awards were going to be as it was going out 'Live'.

In anticipation of a latter day 'Jarvis' slapping his arse in front of Michael Jackson uncensored I tuned in only to find they cut the sound everytime someone swore. How is that dangerous or Live? It makes you wonder what level of censorship they'd have come up with had someone criticised the Government/War in Iraq etc etc.

Am I mistaken or was it really the final nail in the coffin of Rock 'n' Roll?

Rock'n'Roll?
Surely the Brits can only be a reflection of the tastes of pre-teenage girls and reality TV watchers. I didn't see it, but I wouldn't want to as it has nothing to do with the sort of music you would read about in Q or Uncut for example, which is more my type of stuff. Even in the absence of a singles market, it must surely pander to that section of the public. My wife tells me I'm a music snob, and I probably am.
Music on TV is very mainstream - just look what the Glastonbury festival has become now it's a BBC event. It used to be a proper festival, but now we get George Michael & Robbie Williams. Same thing happened to Knebworth.
Just ignore the Brits. It's tabloid TV for tabloid music.

Indeed if Russell Bland had opened the evening with something like "f*ck me there's a lot in tonight" then I might have watched a little bit, but no.

Waste of TV bandwidth, no music content and dull.

Surely no one over the age of 12 watches such garbage?

I didn't know the Brits had anything to do with music.

I did catch the end - some clot said and now the best band in the world, but no sign of Nigel and the lads, Oasis came on instead.

So did I - just turned over during one of the intervals; I think it was before extra time and turned back directly Oasis appeared.

Agreed .....I reckon the problem is that it's shown by ITV ...surely the BEEB wouldn't have censored out the language (after 9.00pm anyways)

If you think of other award shows on the BBC (often hosted by Jonathan Ross) the banter is generally uncensored and "near the knuckle"
...ITV (like Sky)seem to bend over backwards not to offend their typical audience ...which I know sounds really snobby but it's self evident I reckon!

I would like to see The Brits modelled on the Vatican's award cermony...closed doors and white smoke signalling a winner has been chosen...simple, cheap and devoid of those squirming live moments when nobody has a clue what the hell is going on.

The winner will be notified within 28 days by email!
