Ducks on a Lawn
Posted by: syd on 16 April 2009
A few hours ago a small
flock? of ducks landed on the front lawn and hung about for a short while.
Fairly brightened up my day. Perhaps someone could tell me more about them and is it unusual to land someplace without a pond, river or a loch nearby.

Syd,
They do tend to spend the majority of time around water but this group may have been en-route to a new patch, or may just have strayed further than usual from their usual haunt, perhaps in search of food. The group comprises of 3 males and a female - it may be that the males have simply pursued her and caused her to wander further afield than normal in an effort to escape their attentions! It may be interesting to look at a map and locate your nearest river/pond etc.

There is a small loch about a mile north of here, and I presume that's where they're from. Thanks for the info.
