Ok, not the greatest shot in the world, but I'm quite chuffed. We really wanted to see a leopard after not doing so in Zambia last year. On our first game drive I spotted this one at about 100 yards in the tree. Even the guide hadn't seen it. I just managed to rattle off about 4 shots before the animal went into the undergrowth.

VERY close, maybe too close for some. Amazing how they'll completely ignore a Landrover with three people inside, but put one foot on the ground........

Some lovely Maasi giraffe:

some nice pictures there, I especially like the silhouetted giraffes.

what were you using to shoot them with??
Posted on: 29 October 2005 by Tony Lockhart
I used a Canon EOS 20D with, ahem, a Tamron 28-300mm. Not the best lens, but I really can't stretch to a Canon 100-400mm L IS at the moment!
I managed to take my sensor cleaning kit with me and used it once. I also took a 15-30mm Sigma lens that a friend let me borrow!
The trip really wasn't a photo holiday, so I had to be careful not to ignore my wife too often....

just passing comment,
EXELLENT STUFF!

Absolutely nothing wrong with cheap lenses; just like hi-fi diminishing returns but even more so.
Posted on: 30 October 2005 by Tony Lockhart
I have managed to borrow a couple of Canon L series lenses in the last 18 months, and I couldn't believe the consistently better results. Occasionally my Tamron gives a few real corkers, and it'll have to do me for now. I've only managed about £50 in sales this year, so it's hardly warranted anyway.
Next thing is Photoshop. Not looking forward to manipulating more than just a few shots....

Some good pics there. That first shot is excellent, especially given that it was shot with a consumer zoom.

Thanks, Steve. My thoughts too.
