Had to sell my Naim system
Posted by: pjl on 29 May 2009
A sad day yesterday. I have had to sell my little Naim set-up of CD5i-2, Nait5i-2, n-Sats. Due to the prevailing economic conditions my wife and I made the difficult decision over the bank holiday to close our small business and to give our three loyal staff their notice on Tuesday, as we simply can't afford to carry on. We are desperately short of cash - hence the sale of the Naim pieces. I sold my system to James at Tom Tom, and I must say how very fair and supportive he is. He gave us a good price for the system, and in fact ended up giving us more than we had originally agreed which was very much appreciated. He also promised to help us back into a Naim system when our funds have recovered. Dealers like this are few and far between, and I cannot praise James enough for the level of service he provides, with that all-important personal touch which makes you feel that he really values your custom. I'm presently using a humble NAD cd player, Sony A/V amp and Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers. Cetainly not a bad set-up, and still ejoyable, so I can't complain too much - I've still got music.

A wise move in difficult times. We all need to keep perspective, Naim is certainly a luxury that retains good value if you have to sell on.
Good luck for the future.

And yes, as r-tee says, perhaps you have inadvertently done a clever trade-in for some day in the future...!

Many thanks for the kind words everyone. Strange to think that two years ago I was listening to CDS3/XPS2, 252 etc.! Still, chin-up, maybe in two years from now I'll be enjoying music on a pair of Ovators!

Peter
Best wishes and hope things sort themselves out.
Don't worry about the Naim kit, as I've said on here before, the hifi is only a toy not a necessity. Your family etc are for more important.
Kind regards
Gary

All the best to you and your wife Peter. No matter how low you're feeling at the moment, it'll all sort itself out.

All the best wishes in the world for you and your wife, Peter.
And remember, just because you are
temporarily Naim-less doesn't mean you have to be a stranger round here.

Cheers
John

Like all the other comments - keep your chin up and things can only improve.

All the best, Scotty.

Hi Peter,
You've done the right thing. Naim's great, it's important, but it's not that important. Very best wishes to you and your wife. You'll be back

"KBO," as WS Churchill used to say.
Things will get better again. I think I have a clear insight into your situation, and you have my best wishes for the future.

Very many thanks to everyone. There are some wonderful people on this forum and it is very good to feel that people understand and are sympathetic. Thank you all. Scotty, my wife and I ran a domestic cleaning business. George, I know from your previous posts that you have encountered similar hard times and I must say that I have always found your posts to be inspirational in the way that you have coped and also how you have been content with whatever system you have had. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Peter

Good luck man, I know the feeling, I got my papers yesterday.
I'm hoping to keep my kit as I doubt it's worth that much (olive and CB).
On the bright-side, I have time to listen to it now !
Good karma to all out there suffering from the downturn.

Truly sorry to hear your predicament Peter.
I once lost a fair amount of money in a failed busines and know a little bit of what you are feeling.

Sorry to hear about this - difficult times. I think everyone's having to think twice about where they spend their money - I guess the weekly cleaner suddenly seems like a luxury and then you feel the pain.

Thanks again to everyone. Shoot6x7, really sorry to hear of your bad luck too. Yes, hang on to your kit as long as you can - CB and olive is classic stuff. I'm trying to remain positive - we still have the roof over our heads and I know that there are many people far worse off than we are. Some of our customers suffered from serious debilitating illnesses and when you see people in that situation your heart goes out to them and it puts all your own worries into perspective very quickly. Thanks to everyone again for your kindness.
Best regards,
Peter

My deepest sympathies mate.
I was made redundant last December. The wolf isn't knocking the door down yet but I've already been deciding what has to go before I consider losing the system.
Also it seems like everything starts to take the piss. Just after I got finished the fridge and freezer packed up, the MOT flagged up the fact the car needs a new exhaust and four new tyres, and to put the icing on the cake the CDS3's transport has gone tits up.
Ho-hum.
Let's hope the situation picks up soon for the sake of everyone.
Regards,
Steve.

Thanks Steve, sorry to hear of your situation. I know what you mean about everything starting to go wrong at once - this always seems to be the way and that's what I'm dreading! I really hope you have some good luck very soon.

Peter
