HDX SSD Drive possibility?

Posted by: jim329 on 20 October 2009

Is there any chance to have a SSD Drive version of HDX instead of 400g *2 version offically?

Or can we swap the 400g*2 to SSD *2 and clone the firmware to SSD ? anyone tried or idea about it? Thanks a lot

I am guessing there will be warranty issues...

Should be possible to swap the Sata HDD with a SSD. I believe some converter brackets are available. Bare in mind SSD isn´t on the market that long: Highest capacity I could easily find=256GB at EUR 560.. (around 500 pound)

It would be quite disconcerting to replace hard drives in the HDX only to find that:

a) you most likely lose any warranty

and

b) there are other things making noise inside the HDX

probably the HDX-2 uses SSD
(in the meantime you could raid-0 the SSD in the nDAC Big Grin)

Hi Jim,

It would be all speculation:
- The HDX has just recently been released, so it will take some years I guess.
- Perhaps when HHD's get very noisy over the years a improved version with SSD can be released, let's say HDX 1.1 (my experience with HHD's is that they tend to get a bit noisy in 4/5 years time). With current capacity and prices of the SSD an easier/cheaper alternative would be to replace HDD's with new HDD's.
- The specifications of a HDX-2 will probably depend on the upcoming productdevelopment (ie nDAC's, Naim streamers??, pre with DAC??, ... it has to fit between the other products) and of course available/affordable techniques (ie SSD, ...)

Just curious, why are you interested in replacing the current HHD´s?

greetings, Fred
