Closed topics

Browsing through my old posts I noticed that some topics were now closed. Just wondering if there is a general rule as to when a topic is closed (eg only the last 2 months topics are live) or whether a more arbitrary decision is made? No big deal, but interesting to know.

There is a time limit for threads, hen they have been inactive for a while the forum automatically locks the thread,

Yes, if you look back eight weeks or more, they are all closed.

Because of the way threads are presented (oldest first) reanimated threads have a habit of giving a bizarre impression of progress - until you take the time to look at the posting date of the first item.

By automatically "archiving" older threads the search engine is relieved of a considerable strain and works better. The forum is quicker and these threads remain available (via search) for the information contained.

After the "use by" date has passed it is, arguably, as well to start a new discussion - fresh and tasty."

Couldn't have put it better myself.
