Cogratulations US

In true Mick Parry style I'd like to congratulate the people of America (on behalf of the entire UK population) in emasculating the current bunch of war criminals in Washington. Nice one!

But the true criminals behind the war, Wolfowotz and Paerl, has already slipped quietly away from the public eye and is probably living a comfortable life somewhere.

I'd also like to congratulate the people of America for seeing sense. I shall henceforth no longer refer to them as yanks.

Wow, Steve Toy's approval — we have truly arrived as a nation. Roll Eyes

It's a start, but we are still stuck with Dubya for another two years.

I have three words for the people of America - Impeach, impeach, impeach!
Posted on: 08 November 2006 by Phil Cork
Radio shows in the US yesterday were suggesting that the Democrats had already drawn up the necessary paperwork to impeach Bush, and were 'simply waiting for the results'

Dear Acad

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but with only 36% of Americans in favor of impeachment, the odds of this are very slight.

Even if their was a mandate for this, the Republicans are too unified, for this to be an even remote possibility.

The Democrats will have the power to form committees and investigate. If what they find can change more people's minds, then more power to them.

Big Brother

(edit) Politically speaking it would be better if Bush was not impeached. The Dems will investigate and bring out so much dirt that the Republicans will be forced to defend their president. When they do, they will all be voted out together in '08.

As Lyndon Johnson once said: "If your going to kill a rattlesnake, be sure you get it with one blow."

Meaning, of course, the current Republican congress and thier presidental candidate in '08.

Also, please note, if Bush is impeached, who is next in line ?!!!

Dear Big Brother,

I'm still hopeful nonetheless. There are a few movements gathering momentum in the US.

1/ The 'we were lied to about the whole WMD/Iraq thing'. Given the situation in Iraq can only get worse and will eventually result in the totally ignomineous withdrawal of troops (which the Arab world will see as a great victory)Americans will be looking for a bigger scapegoat than Rumsfeld. It is an illegal war ergo Bush is a Bush criminal.

2/ The 'election fraud/voting rigging/diebold machine' thing. Recent revelations are only now beginning to filter through to the mainstream and there will be more revelations to come I suspect. This is way bigger than Watergate.

3/ The '9/11 conspiracy' thing. There are so many people coming out of the woodwork now who were too scared to talk in the aftermath of 9/11 but they are now joining forces and the amount of evidence to support the conspiracy theory is so huge now that official investigations can only be a short time away. Major film documentaries are coming out and will be in the mainstream movie theatres soon. Whether true or not there is at least enough evidence to show there is a case to be answered. Interestingly there are a number of people who have put up prizes of over a million dollars for anyone who can prove the governments interpretations of how those planes could have caused the towers to collapse and NO ONE is coming forward to claim the prize or even debate the issues! Th early conspiracy theory documentaries were flawed but the recent stuff is based on sound science, expert opinion and meticulous study.

4/ The 'phoney war on terror' thing - This is less easy to prove but there have been new websites appearing almost weekly dealing with this issue. The fear mongering in order to control the masses is transparently obvious in my view.

5/ America's financing of Israel's treatment of Palestians (at best aparthied and at worst genocide)and the recent war with Hezbollah during which many hundreds of innocent Lebanese men, women and children were killed and maimed has been exposed as never before. The hypocricsy of funding Israel billions of dollars yearly in order for Israel to buy, for example, F16 fighter-bombers while whingeing about alleged Iranian supplies of obsolete rockets is begining to filter through to even the dense of Americans.

6/ The 'Bush & Co involvement in profiteering from the Iraq war and oil companies etc'. thing is being talked about on American TV news now.

7/ Bush's spiritual advisor and leader of 30 million US evangelists Ted haggard has admitted having had a three year sexual relationship with a gay prostitute in drug fueled sex romps and using Meth with his wife has had to resign causing considerable shock and further undermines Bush.

all these are beginning to join forces and gather momentum in the US and if Bush is not impeached whilst in office when his crimes are far more serious than Nixons ever were than it will be a major disaster for democracy in the west.

The major power in the world is not the USA - it is the internet and Bush and his cronies stupidly overlooked this.

8/ Borat is no.1 at the US box office! America is learning to laugh at itself at last. This can only be a good thing. Winker

CNN and BBC websites have just announced that the Repuplican Govenor of Virginia, George Allen, has conceded defeat, so giving the Democrats control of the Senate (as the 2 independents lean more to the Democrats).

Start ticking off the days George.

Impeachment is simply not in the cards. It would be a useless exercise to mount an impeachment campaign when there's no chance that the Senate would convict.

Besides, as in 1969, the VP has to be moved out before taking on W. That would allow W to name a new VP, who would become President upon W's conviction anyway. The appointed VP/P would be a very formidable candidate in 2008.

OTOH, I trust that congressional oversight, run by Democrats, will provide a steady stream of hard evidence of Republican malfeasance and incompetence, which should have a lot of imac in 2008 - if Pelosi doesn't get arrogant.

BTW, incompetence is not a Republican monopoly; however, the financial malfeasance of this Republican party dwarfs anything we've seen before.

Of course, if the revelations nergize a broad spectrum of US citizens to call for W's impeachment....

Regards.

I'm interested to know the knock-on effects of this on Tony Blair. He must realise now that the greater public think he's made a mess of it and all support that he kidded himself that he had isn't there at all. This may speed his departure.
