Hi Andrew,

I can't find the link for the photos of the "new" Naim kit at the London show.

Could you please post the link to the photos?

Thanks

Andrew,

Ignore my previous post.

Not just a Claymore - but also a CDP layer some pre-amps, power amps and loudspeakers. These are very attractively priced and I managed to hear their pre-power system playing reggae - which was one of the best musical systems at the show, excellent at synchronising the timing of players.

I think Incatek are now related to Isotek power conditioners, both were exhibiting in the same room.

Eek

Perhaps I should have gone. I thought it was all Diana Krell.

Tina was quite dismayed that many of the round earth rooms chose to showcase their kit with bad tinkly jazz.

...or perhaps not.

Thanks for the photos though.

Here's heresy for you - I don't suppose the CD5i has a digital output???

Is that a Pioneer DVD I see in the earlier picture?? It's not a 656A but one of the siblings - nice players Wink

Make your choice, adventurous Stranger;
Strike the bell and bide the danger
Or wonder, till it drives you mad,
What would have followed if you had.

Looks like you're right, it's a Pioneer for sure, but I can't find it on their web site so I guess it's not in their current range (which maybe isn't to surprising, as they change it every 20 seconds or so... Wink) Can't really comment on the quality - at the show it seemed to be on a loop playing excerpts from the Windows Media Player visualisations archive Smile

Sorry of this has been covered. . .

on that system under the lamp, what is the box on the bottom? It appears to have a cd tray outline on the bottom left side, but no finger handle to pull it out. What is that thing?

FWIW I thought the Arriva speakers sounded way too heavy in the bass ...maybe it was the room but it sure wouldn't buy 'em based on that! And what was with the psychadelic plasma display thing???

I suspect that's the DVD player that's been mentioned - conventional drawer loading etc.

I think you're right Rico. I didn't take that close a look at the show, but I think I overheard someone saying it's a display model of the new DVD player, & that the working one was at the other show. Here's a closer view anyway (sorry about the lack of resolution - it turns out I'm no David Bailey Frown)

Here is a slightly better pic of the stack which included the DVD player at the bottom.

Unfortunately, I left the camera in the wrong mode for the whole day, so mine isn't all it could be, either.

cheers, Martin

No, it looks like what it is and that's a design afterthought.

Do you clap twice and the DVD drawer opens, or is there an "open" button somewhere?
Posted on: 02 October 2003 by timster
Alex, I doubt it, but the pic just above doesn't help as it looks all shiny (barf.) However, the one where it's on a fraim looks much better as it appears to matche the silver uprights, right?

Anyway, is it simply a cosmetic clip-on and more to the point, how much?

Got it sussed - maybeez
I think I have the answer - if you put a non-redbook CD in the CDP, the drawer on the DVD opens, a little sign pops up and says "try here !"

Failing that - "Open Sesame" might work.....

That's a bright idea, if you don't own a Naim CDP, the DVD door never opens. It's a marketing strategy to continue to sell CDP whatever happens with DVD-V, DVD-A, SACD....The CDP stays the master.

for how long?? just like you want to stay at grade 2 in school to always be the master of that class when all your classmates advance to grade 3... A master of a lower/inferior technology? what a sad joke.

My post was sarcastic.

But, it happens 2 grades are in the same room, with only one teatcher. If you are at grade 2, but don't stop lurking at the grade 3 lessons, you can completely miss grade 2.
I mean, enjoy the mature technologies (LP,CD) now, and keep an eye on new things.
