Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

Posted by: Mr Underhill on 24 April 2007

Bought this last week on sale for £5.

I had avoided this due to some mixed views I'd read. I bought it as I generally end up doing a mopping up exercise when the discs come down in price ....and?

I can hear why some people might not be impressed with NJ as a singer; although it is a style I can happily live with. What I really enjoy about this album are the backing musicians. NJ may lack vocal gymnastics but their are nice jazz touches & syncopated rhythms going on all the time - love the bass lines.

Got to say I'm happy I bought this one, are the other(s) worth getting?

I actually prefer the demos disc, which now costs a small fortune and her first major release.

Absolutely adored 'Come away with me', thought 2nd album was a bit of a dull rehash, havent bought anything else

Her latest album is wonderful. Really got me hooked - much more so than earlier lp's.

I think the current disc is easily her best, 'Come away with me' is good and the middle one, 'Feels like home', I find boring.

Funny that I bought her new one and only played it once. So it is destined for the used bin at my local(96 miles away)store.

If you get a chance listen to the demos disc. You could only buy it on her own web site at one time.

Agree with bazz on this one.
First one is good, second one was a letdown for me, and the latest release is my favorite.

As for me all of them are the same - for some reason it doesn't really matter which one i pull off - i think i won't really distinct one from another. Pretty boring, calm-wine-wife-evening records. I'd choose any of Patricia Barber any day over NJ.

Cheers,
Daniel.

Daniel

It would be boring if we all liked the same music but I can't for the life of me see how you class the latest album as the same as the previous ones. You may not like it, but if you have heard it, surely you can sense the gulf between? [Assuming of course that you have heard the latest one]

Just love PB however she is IMO a totally different style of artist to NJ who is more laidback. God this post is beginning to look like my godsons text messages all abbreviations.
