Phono Board for Denon DL110 (high output)

Posted by: MJSM on 15 November 2003

I have just purchased a high output MC cartidge for my LP12/Ittok set-up and would like to know more about which board to fit inside my NAC72.

I'm told that the output
quote:
Output Voltage 1.6mV (1kHz, 50mm/sec)
is high enough to go through a MM board, but am not sure if this is the case.

Furthermore, is it only down to the minimum voltage, or is there more to the story than this. I have just bought some 323/k boards off Ebay thinking that I would need them (silly really, should have asked this question before I bought them), but I'm told that it's better to use the MM boards as the noise level is lower.

Help ......

Lastly, I'm not interested in a prefix or whatever, so that's not really an option, just need to know which board - MM or MC (and if MC, do I need the 323/K or the 323/S)

Thanks
Mike

All advice gratefully received

Hi Mike,
You will need to use 322 MM boards.
Bear in mind that the output of the denon is quite low for a high output moving coil(most are around 2.5mv,so you will have to turn the wick up a bit more.

Paul,

I have already got 323/K boards which I intended to use, is this a better option than 322 board ?? or are they inherently noisy ??

I think you will get too much gain with the MC boards.
Most low ouput moving coils are around 0.25-0.6 mv output, this is what the 323's are intended to be used with.
The Denon is 1.6mv so it will sound very loud, probably hissy as well, but you can try it.

Paul.

Ask Naim if the 110 will overload the K boards (it probably will). If not, you can use them.
