"Beatles to Bowie" at National Portrait Gallery

Has anyone else been to see this exhibition?
We went yesterday. A really good photo history of the 60s in popular music and culture, with a lot of well known pictures, some less well known ones and artifacts from the time such as album and EP sleeves, sheet music and even some designer clothes.
Really enjoyed it. However, as it was a 59th birthday present it reminded me that the 60s are now far enough back to be considered historical and that I really am an old fart!

Thanks Derek. I am coming to terms with it!

Very true.

One word of caution. It is extremely hot and stuffy in the "B to B" galleries - wear removeable layers!

I have got considerably better examples of all the LP covers shown in my own collection. Most of the sheet music too.
I thought the curation was really poor, with no real structure to the collection. No information about the technical aspects of the photography. The Baileys are brilliant of course, but usually you get to see them in the "normal" collection free.
What was it, eleven quid to get in?

The Twiggy room was far better IMHO and also free.

No idea. As I said, it was a present.

Entry fees can be significantly reduced if you are an Art Fund member and or older than 60 - so Chris something for you to look forward to apart from the back ache, joint stiffness etc.

The London Art Fair at the weekend was brilliant a most amazing and divergent range of art from the last 50 or 60 years.

I reckon that the members of this forum probably have enough atrifacts to put on a comparable exhibition.

Actually got in to see the show this morning, interesting range of viewers from old lags who were there when all the Beatles stuff happened and and a lot of youngsters looking at pictures and names of people their parents would mutter about.

Biggest problem at the show was the old lags standing in front of the pictures wittering on to their colleagues about the old days and what they remembered instead of taking in the picture and moving on.

However the crowd was insignificant compared to the Turner and the Masters show at Tate Britain - Over crowded, over heated, over hyped and a miserable way of spending time in a gallery. Also over priced even with Art Fund and old fogey prices.

I was given the book of the show as a birthday present on Friday. Very nice reproductions, and nice to be able to browse at one's own pace and without the heat and noise of the Gallery!
