CDX2 & Capitol Sessions

My CDX2 has never had a problem with any disc except the Capitol Sessions. Figuring I must just have a defective disc, I recently purchased another one - Same thing! I either get an ERR message or the disc starts and then just grinds down or makes some horrible sound and quits. What's up?

Hi, from your description, maybe the disc is slipping? Guess you may have a worn out puck. Try another fresh puck to see if it cures your problem. Or for free, try to turn the grippy rubbers so they are not squashed anymore. Let us know. The disc may be thinner than usual.

I think the pucks are OK, since every other disc plays fine. Just a batch of thin discs? Too bad. I happen to like that record.

I had the same problem - it was the puck in my case (maybe the cd's a re slightly thinner?).
I did this http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3452929996/m/1042933007
and it worked. Have to do it every so often, but no problems now.

Hi Chayro,

I have had this problem on a couple of CDs (out of 600 or so).

Get some sello-tape, cut a circular piece the same size as the centre of the CD. I used a pound coin and cut neatly round it using a stanley knife.

Place the small "disc" of sello-tape into the centre of the CD (it should cover the hole and the centre of the disc - to the point where the disc becomes normal thickness).

Cut out the sello-tape covering the centre hole - it effectively leaves a ring of sello-tape that builds the slightly thinner centre up a bit.

Repeating the exercise will build the thickness of the CD centre even more should that be necessary. I usually find one is enough and the CD plays perfectly.

Job done.

Regards,

Steve.

Chayro,

Recently at my NAIM dealer a CDS III player could not be enticed to play None but The Lonely Heart (naim cd 022). I blame the capriciouis Charlie Haden who embarasses those dignified machines. Perhaps this is the reason why Haden is upgrading his NAIM player from CDS II to the new 555 this weekend.

Can you imagine a player that does not want to play your own music?

Regards,

Haim
