Universally applicable?

Try the following experiment.....over the next 100 years.....

Ban maths from school and hang all parents caught trying to teach their kids maths at home.

No more maths indoctrination, no more maths.

Pathetic!

Same applies to religion......although I have a personal preference for no faith schools and no religion in state/private schools,, other than as part of an awareness course covering a range of religions.

Cheers

Don

Btw, I tend not to bother with hyper-links unless the poster provides a precis.

CS Lewis took to Christianity while at Oxford IIRC.

Mike, why have you started this thread after you losing the argument on the other one? I thought you had better things to do - like watching Celebrity Big Brother. Winker

C S Lewis couldn't write for toffee. David Icke is more believable.

20 minutes...

I hadn't noticed that I "lost"? I just got fed up with all the religious flummery merchants missing the point, although I should have expected that inevitability, I suppose.

Impacted wisdom teeth - not much intelligent design there, eh?

But he is weird!

But, he says the earth is ruled by blood-sucking lizardds. There's something not right about that? I mean - he wrote it in a book, without any evidence, it must be true.

Hope that was not aimed ar me.

Just because people think yo're being rude does not make them Godbotherers. I made no mention of CS Lewis' writing skills, I indicated his age as you clearly thought that the only people who "got" religion where those who where caought as kids. I also note that his works have been in constant print for >50 years, so lots of people woukd disagree with you on that point as well.

Not going too smoothly, is it?

( oh, and an insult followed by a smilie is still an insult. Most people are not fooled by that. )

No such person as Christ, J?

Precisely.

You fell for it.

How so?

Religion as a result of indoctrination. Sounds like a suitable subject for investigation by CFFOROT..

Well gee, that's how it read to me... You mean to say it's NOT about invisible, blood sucking lizards?

Oh, wait...
Posted on: 09 January 2010 by Tarquin Maynard - Portly
Mike, IIRC Icke did not write the Bible.

Like I said, not going too well for you, is it? I'd stop now if I where you.
Posted on: 10 January 2010 by Mike Dudley
This is probably going to surprise you, but I do actually know that David Icke did not write the bible.

I bet he'd feel at home with the fantasists that did, though.

I can't decide what's the better story - Icke's lizards on the one hand or talking snakes and magic tricks with dead people by a self-harming schizophrenic who probably never existed, on the other.

Going really well, thanks.

No, it's not. I'd quit now if I were you.

Oooh. A gang. Scared.

Yep. No probs over here. Currently engaged in not allowing a bunch of fairy stories to trigger an emotional reaction, forcing acceptance of nonsense as truisms.

"But religion's it's very comforting".

So's sucking a security blanket.

Thanks for your attention and DO let me know again, if you'd like an update.

PS: Oh, I nearly forgot - the great Tim Minchin was on the box last night. Here's the lyrics to one of his most chuckle-able efforts. Says it all, really:

"If anyone can show me one example in the history of the world of a single
Psychic who has been able to prove under reasonable experimental conditions that they are able to read minds

And if anyone can show me one example in the history of the world of a single
Astrologer who has been able to prove under reasonable experimental conditions that they can predict events by interpreting celestial signs

And if anyone can show me one example in the history of the world of a single
Homeopathic Practitioner who has been able to prove under reasonable experimental conditions that solutions made of infinitely tiny particles of good stuff dissolved repeatedly into relatively huge quantities of water has a consistently higher medicinal value than a similarly administered placebo

And if anyone can show me just one example in the history of the world of a single
Spiritual or religious person who has been able to prove either logically or empirically the existence of a higher power that has any consciousness or interest in the human race or ability to punish or reward humans for there moral choices or that there is any reason - other than fear - to believe in any version of an afterlife

Ill give you my piano, one of my legs, and my wife "
