Forum Rugby Club - 2009-2010 Season
Posted by: JWM on 10 July 2009
Well it's just about mid-July; the Lions have been, been cheated, and gone; so it must be time to start thinking about the new season.
Lots of new faces in most GP clubs, plus of course Leeds now. (Cockers running Leicester, Deano running Quins, Backie running Leeds - these Tigers get everywhere! ) And of course Tigers are looking forward to giving out the usual mauling, but this season with a brilliant new stand and a new home kit (to be launched on 24th July). Sorry Sharlene, I'm spending my clothing allowance on that, not some bloomin' Naim T-shirt...!

Don`t worry about him it seems that he can`t explain his comments anyway, just blurts it out then runs.
TIGERS TIGERS

Canterbury Shirts (UK) have gone into administration. Very sorry for employees
But it also means that Pests and others will be looking for new outfits at v short notice, as all club contracts have been cancelled.
Where's Umbro and Bukta when you need them? Failing that, Cotton Traders - you know it makes sense! You might even get a rugby shirt that looks like a rugby shirt!

Lovely as you say a proper TIGERS shirt, i`ve just come over all unnecessary and feel the need to purchase one. Even chillkram must be moved by the need to stand too and and feel the surge of pride

Your aspiration is, presumably, naked, since their kit supplier went bust?
Posted on: 25 July 2009 by deadlifter
best lend them some kit to play in as we have already given them a player i.e. Tom Varndell which i think was a big mistake
Posted on: 25 July 2009 by Chillkram
The only surge of 'pride' you lot will be feeling next season is of the 'London' variety when you venture down south next season to take a beating and you are drowning your sorrows with the local brew!
Posted on: 26 July 2009 by deadlifter
I quite like fullers ESB. though i cannot see the beating, because the tigers will still be on a high and ready to continue from where they left off and the wasps will be trying to regroup with a new manager and players. But only time will tell and varndell could be a double agent ????

Not quite sure where the 'London' comes in with High Wycombe Wasps.

No, no - I know about London Pride, but I just couldn't see the connection of London Pride and HW Wasps. (Sponsors?)

I refer the honourable gentlemen to these two of my previous posts:
Fullers is Twickenham's local brewery (being in Chiswick).
As to the 'London' aspect of the Wasps moniker, they spend 5 days a week at their training ground in Acton, West London. I think this is more than enough to warrant the allocated title after all, I've never seen a green and red striped tiger.
However, I could never argue against the suitability of the first syllable of your coach's surname!

Today's professional rugby football team in the city of Leicester is known as the Tigers. This has a regimental connection. In 1825 the regiment, which at the time was known as the 17th Foot, was given the honour of wearing the insignia of a tiger superimposed with the word "Hindoostan", in recognition of its long stint in India between 1804 and1823. The regiment began to be popularly called the Tigers and the name had since stuck. In WW1, the Leicester Brigade (110th Brigade of 21st Division - see above) was known as the Tigers.
Better history than the pests, hey

Ahem "...Wasps RUFC was originally formed in 1867 at the now defunct Eton and Middlesex Tavern in North London"
Further, I believe that was thirteen years before the formation of Leicester's Tigers...
"...when the Rugby Football Union was formed on 26th January 1871. As a reasonably well-established Club, Wasps were invited to join the Union and, therefore, were eligible to be Founder Members."
Still nine years before the Tigers...
Best supporting an Original rather than some 'Jonno come lately...', I feel

Pleased to see you're on the ball, Munch!
Very good news, not least because it uses existing stadia (including Welford Rd ) so the infratructure is already in place pretty much.
But it should be a good encouragement to young people starting out in the game, and to Britain as a rugby watching nation. Perhaps we can get some Forum members together to go and watch a game or two?? We should be able to. After all, we've only got six years to plan the p*ss up.
Right, off to the seaside for a bit, with my green, red and white bucket and spade.
James
