Forum Rugby Club - 2009-2010 Season
Posted by: JWM on 10 July 2009
Well it's just about mid-July; the Lions have been, been cheated, and gone; so it must be time to start thinking about the new season.
Lots of new faces in most GP clubs, plus of course Leeds now. (Cockers running Leicester, Deano running Quins, Backie running Leeds - these Tigers get everywhere!
) And of course Tigers are looking forward to giving out the usual mauling, but this season with a brilliant new stand and a new home kit (to be launched on 24th July). Sorry Sharlene, I'm spending my clothing allowance on that, not some bloomin' Naim T-shirt...!

A poor game at Twickenham in terms of quality, both sides made far too many mistakes. England had all the possession early on and wasted loads of opportunities to put the game away through white line fever amongst the forwards and that old malaise, blowing the overlap by failing to draw the defender before playing the pass to put in the (would be) try scorer.
England nearly gave the game away after being 20-3 up and I thought they defended poorly under pressure at times. For a while in the second half they completely switched off.
The England scrum again was inconsistent at best and Delon Armitage was poor under the high ball.
That said, I thought England's execution for the last and game winning try was excellent, especially the part played by Matthew Tait. Care and Haskell had decent games and Wilkinson kicked well. I'd still like to see Croft and Kennedy in the team though, and I don't think much of our front row today.
Either team could have won it at points during the game, but England would have been most disappointed to have lost.
Overall a win's a win but England will need to improve greatly to win this championship.

Yaeh, all that. Pretty entertaining though. The Keystone Cops element only added to the fun.

At least Johnny-boy is fit and back... there aren't many sides in the world who would turn down a match fit Wilkinson at 10.

DITTO, but it`s start.
Tigers go down 23-11 against Northampton Saints obviously missing their players to England

Looks like their might be a possibility of Wasps losing Cipriani according to the rugby press this morning

That story was out last week. Looks like he will be off to Oz.

France looked good today. Scotland did well to keep the points down to 18.

Apparently Oz is not sure yet due to "checking his attitude to see if he will fit in with the team"
But the French seem interested among other teams
It`s about time the jocks sorted their shit out, they have some damn good players including a Lion or two and i cannot understand why they lose so much. But they did show some of the Scottish fighting spirit and kept going till the end. But it has to be said the French have been consistent for many years with the quality of their game

Not quite sure why England are 'excited' about this team.

"Not quite sure why England are 'excited' about this team."
I completely agree and another poor performance against a team they should of slaughtered.
The jocks must have been listening to what i had said last week as they put in a great performance against the welsh only to be shown higher class by wales in the last five minute`s, they must have been gutted.

Quite. Another woeful display of kicking away (badly) any possession. I'm a big fan of MJ, the player but oh boy, how much more of this?
I thought Italy played well.
The England side looks "over-coached" to me. A side that sticks to a simple game plan always causes more problems than they should.

France, as they often do early on, look the side to beat. I thought they methodically dismantled Ireland yesterday and I fear for England in Paris on today's showing. Kick the ball constantly to their backs and expect it to come back with interest.

I thought the Underwood brothers played well. And that young Jason Robinson fellow looks the part. Richard Hill's work rate was first class. And the leadership displayed by Will Carling was something we've missed for a while. With the force of nature that is Dallaglio, the young scamp Dawson and the naughty Neil Back in the squad all getting in the opposition's faces, I can only see bright things ahead.

Brian Moore was surprisingly quiet though.

I enjoyed watching the Premiership highlights more. Grass roots, club rugby for me.

How embarrassing for Andy Powell, not only drink driving but in a golf buggy to boot
Posted on: 15 February 2010 by deadlifter
It`s just been on the news that Powell has been dropped from the welsh squad for the rest of the six nations.
Expensive drinking session Saturday night then

Irish v Bath was good. Not sure where that Bath performance came from but it has put us right back in touch with 4th place after our victory against Sale yesterday.

Well, before DL gets to it...
A good win for Tigers to keep them at the top of the GP.
Leicester 33 Gloucester 11
Even when games in hand work themselves out, they'll still be at the top end. As things stand, they've got the best defensive record in the league - both least points and least tries scored against - as well as currently leading on points scored for and bonus points, and towards the top end of tries scored for. (And we're not even having that brilliant a season...!!
)
I like how Gloucester assistant coach Denis Betts put it after yesterday's match:
"The beast got us, the Leicester beast. They are top of the league and played very well.
"We came here with confidence. We have been working exceptionally hard recently to get the results and get us back into some form.
"Then you come to this place, you come with hope and with ambition but you have to perform and today they outperformed us."
We had tickets but sadly I couldn't go myself because my back problem is still with me
But I'm delighted that my son snapped my hand off for them for him and a friend.
With the 'dad and son' stuff, especially when they're a bit older and could be hanging out with their mates, there's always that wondering whether son feels as if he's being dragged along by the old man! So I'm really chuffed that he particularly wanted to go with a friend by themselves!

[That was going to be my last visit to Welford Rd this season (of course still the GP Final at HQ to come) but I'll have to see if I can get some tickets for Tigers vs Hairyqueens in April, should be a good match.]

Yes, great game and result yesterday, nearly posted to gloat late last night but i was to knackered after an afternoon of changing radiators and having to re pipe them fill the system and so forth, so sat down with a beer instead
Wasps are still four points off fourth place and Cipriani has signed with the rebels and rumour is Skivington might be on his way to Tigers

9-0 might not be the most exciting sounding game but a win's a win and that puts us level on points with Irish, although with a much inferior points difference.
