Forum Rugby Club - 2009-2010 Season
Posted by: JWM on 10 July 2009
Well it's just about mid-July; the Lions have been, been cheated, and gone; so it must be time to start thinking about the new season.
Lots of new faces in most GP clubs, plus of course Leeds now. (Cockers running Leicester, Deano running Quins, Backie running Leeds - these Tigers get everywhere!
) And of course Tigers are looking forward to giving out the usual mauling, but this season with a brilliant new stand and a new home kit (to be launched on 24th July). Sorry Sharlene, I'm spending my clothing allowance on that, not some bloomin' Naim T-shirt...!

I've found out the problem, England are too busy trying to work out what to wear...

I would not mind that lot myself,i would not need to go clothes shopping again

They should try wearing a bit of pride in the shirt.

Hopefully they will find some when they come out against those frenchies

Great game 'twixt Northampton and Saracens this afo, far more exciting than Scotland v England and some great rugby from young English players. How can they play like this for their clubs and be so utterly clueless when they play for England.

You missed a cracker in the Cardiff v Gloucester game on Sunday, what a 2nd half.I was there!
Nothing like spanking the Welsh in their own back yard.
Have my tickets for the Sunday final, and as the game is at Sixways, maybe Gloucester won't choke in their 3rd final in 3 years.
Regards

Good luck FF. It would be good to see the Cherry and Whites win something!

Your telling me!!
After a rubbish 2 years of really bad rugby, we need to win this one on Sunday. A place in the HC awaits the winner and the Saints will get their place via the GP anyway.
Another hat trick for Sinbad please.

Team: 15-Ben Foden, 14-Mark Cueto, 13-Mike Tindall, 12-Riki Flutey, 11-Chris Ashton, 10-Toby Flood, 9-Danny Care; 8-Nick Easter, 7-Lewis Moody (captain), 6-Joe Worsley, 5-Louis Deacon, 4-Simon Shaw, 3-Dan Cole, 2-Dylan Hartley, 1-Tim Payne
Bit happier about the back line today with Northampton try machine Chris Ashton coming in on the wing and his mate Foden at fullback. Tindall should give us a bit of crash ball potential and Flood will be flatter than Wilkinson. There is a bit of intelligence in there and some swashbuckling. Let's just hope these guys can cut loose from the shackles they appear to have applied when they take the field wearing the red rose.
Not so happy with the forwards as it does not look like a pack that will win ball at the set piece or the breakdown.
The best we can hope for is a glimmer or two of creative back play or a spark of pride and passion from Moody and Shaw.
Not talking about Wasps this morning!

Great game by the Welsh today to kick off the rugby on BBC1.A bit of a melt down by the Bergamasco brothers though and Italy should have been down to 13 men at one stage in the second half
Roll on the Jocks and Paddys, now that should be a physical encounter

Mirco was behaving badly against France the other week too. At one point I heard the referee ask his assistant to keep an eye on '11 blue'.

Puts the English result against Scotland into perspective.
Posted on: 20 March 2010 by deadlifter
I am very happy for the Scots they certainly deserved that win and i think this will be a turning point for them as a team because this should bolster the feeling that they are capable of beating the top teams and progressing up the points and away from the bottom of every competition that they compete in
Posted on: 20 March 2010 by Chillkram
They've been close in quite a few games and have actually played some nice rugby. They beat the Irish up front today.
Well done Scotland.

Right then, off to the pub for the next game

Posted on: 20 March 2010 by Chillkram
I wouldn't expect too much!

From the rugby I mean. The pub might be fantastic!

R E F E R E E FOR F#@K`S SAKE THE French had a 16th man.

By all means they deserved the championship but by NO MEANS the grand slam, they were NOT the best team tonight
As i said early on Borthwick should be nervous and the team performed better without him

Well, the best England performance of this Six Nations by some distance.
England should have won that game and with a bit of composure could have had another three tries. They once again failed to nail a number of shoo-in situations. The encouraging things are that they manufactured that many situations against a previously solid French defence and that they actually have in Foden and Ashton a couple of real finishers who have a big future with England. Although Ashton blew one big chance I think he will score more than he misses in the future.
Tindall had a big game and gave England the midfield momentum they had been missing. His presence allowed Flutey to actually play as an inside centre should and he showed good hands and good link play on several occasions. Tindall also wrapped up Bastereau pretty well, I thought. He should not have been substituted when he was.
So the good news was the back line as suspected in the my pre match assessment. They look exciting and if the forwards can get them the ball they will wreak havoc with defences.
Now the bad news. France destroyed our scrum. During the early nineties England's balance was the other way around. They were pretty much unbeatable at the setpiece and were guaranteed loads of ball, even against the southern hemisphere teams. The trouble was that they had no idea what to do with it. It was not unusual for them to enjoy 70% possession against the top teams and still lose! Now it's the other way around. Johnno must pick a forward pack that can win ball in the scrum and lineout. That said, they did better today at the breakdown and the ball was coming out faster at times compared to previous performances.
So what did today prove? We need a crash bang centre to make midfield gains. Wales have Jamie Roberts, France have Bastereau, Ireland have D'Arcy, Tindall made a big difference. If we pick a back three who can run with abandon and not aimlessly kick away possession, we can stretch defences. A scrum half who is quick to the breakdown and a fly half who stands flat can unlock defences. We can't scrum and we must fix that. Johnno's considered decisions are not as good as those forced upon him by circumstance. Foden and Ashton are exciting.

Any bets on that we will not (should not) be seeing that ref in the 6 Nations again ??? or even in any international game for that matter. If we do I might just have to change to wrestling, at least we know the refs are intended to be part of the farce.
Its a pity England resorted to kicking in the last 1/4 (JW), all that did was give France the ball, you don't win games without the ball in hand. Apart from that England showed a lot of promise that I think we all knew was hidden somewhere over these last bleak months
Posted on: 20 March 2010 by Chillkram
It reminded me a little of the ref in the RWC final in 2003 when it was difficult to fathom any of his decisions and they all appeared to be for the other team, "The referee's a homer!",etc, etc....

Look with the world cup now next year Johnson needs to forget loyalty and forge a team that can stand a chance of winning, and tonight he took a step nearer. But we need more games to find that team
