Forum Rugby Club - 2009-2010 Season
Posted by: JWM on 10 July 2009
Well it's just about mid-July; the Lions have been, been cheated, and gone; so it must be time to start thinking about the new season.
Lots of new faces in most GP clubs, plus of course Leeds now. (Cockers running Leicester, Deano running Quins, Backie running Leeds - these Tigers get everywhere!
) And of course Tigers are looking forward to giving out the usual mauling, but this season with a brilliant new stand and a new home kit (to be launched on 24th July). Sorry Sharlene, I'm spending my clothing allowance on that, not some bloomin' Naim T-shirt...!

You're kidding right?
Matfield, Steyn, Brussow, du Preez, de Villiers... Even the kiwi's admit that the Springboks are probably the best team in world rugby at the moment (and trust me that takes a lot for a kiwi to admit).

Rewind the tape and watch the last Lion`s test
and the aussies and kiwis are not as good as they used to be,also in the cricket as well i think you will find

Yes, the Lion's did win the last test but... the Springboks had already won the series.
I'm sorry but you don't get to be the #1 ranked team in the world, win the World Cup, and beat a team comprised of four different nations by being "not so good" (or a team of just two players), especially not in rugby
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

The Boks gave the Aussies a bit of a beating in the first 20 mins and I thought they were on for a bit of an embarassment, but they fought back to respectability.
There can be no doubt that the Boks are the best team in the world, though, and all the criticisms the ABs are throwing at them are the same as those thrown at England when they were the best team in the world in 2003.

there does not seem to be a lot of difference between you and me [ just looked at your profile ]
except you need to ditch the round ball for the oval one. what are your favourite malts, plural rather than the singular because there can never just be one ?????

Agreed - it is very difficult for the kiwi's to admit that their beloved AB's may not be the best team in the world. They prefer to point out what is wrong with the opposition

Yes it's impossible to pick just one. I enjoy a bit of everything depending on my mood, season etc. but if I had to single out a few (without getting into different finishes, ages etc) they would be Aberlour, Edradour, Glenfarclas, Glenlivet, Macallan, Scapa and probably a few more that I can't think of right now.
What about yourself?

Just bought a bottle of 12 year old Scapa last night £60 jointly paid for by my cousin, so cannot wait to get into that

DL, with your hands full, are you going to manage to get to any Tigers' matches this season?
I'm just a bit too far away to make a Season Ticket worthwhile, but hope to make use of the 'pick n mix' 4-games-for-3 ticket offer.

Yes mate, should have tickets for the match against Newcastle falcons and as for any other games thats what my parents are for [looking after the little one ] unfortunately we lost donna`s dad last night so down to three grandparents now + probably got another three weeks till the hospital release the little fella to the great wide world. But i hope to get to more games this season and i am already booked up for next years guiness prem final.

Very sorry to hear about the family bereavement. A real emotional rollercoaster for you all.
I shan't be able to make the Falcons game, as our 'venue' is hosting a concert for the West Norfolk Music Festival that day. But I look forward to booking up some others ... especially as no.1 daughter has cleverly just got herself into Leics Univ!!

And i don`t suppose you directed No 1 daughter in that way in any shape or form, did you

Funnily enough, originally her 1st choice (good course) was Aberystwyth, and she was very reluctant about my suggestion of looking at Leics, but as soon as she got to look round... bingo!

Bit of a bad result for the tigers yesterday against sale, although only a couple of points in it. i searched on sky for the game but it did not seem to be televised

Boy is just off to London for a double header at Twickenham, no idea what species of Rugby it is.

You did not expect me to remain silent after an opening fixture like that on Sunday.
Glos 24 Barf 5
We were not very good on the day, which does not say much for Barf.
I have been to all 3 pre season games too and they are playing as a team now. Good bye Dean Ryan & Ryan Lamb...

Great to hear from you FF. And we're all delighted if Gloucester are going to acquit themselves better this season. I saw a write-up and not only did they score heavily, by all accounts they played well too.
Slight stutter for Tigers at Sale, making heavy weather of the heavy weather (though it has proved a bit of a bogey ground over the last few years).
Interesting to see Varndell do better for Pests in his first game than he had done for Tigers over the last couple of seasons. Excitement of a new job and all. But they might find him taking his eye off the ball/losing concentration as the weather gets colder and in matches where forwards have to grind out the games...
Hairy Queens don't seem to want to learn ... a sending-off and probably a consequent few weeks' ban in their first game after Bloodgate ... tut, tut, tut...
Tigers are going a Pick 'n' Mix for early bookers, buy three (games) get a fourth free. Just choosing mine. But Pests and Glaws should be on my 'to do' list.

Great game 'twixt the ABs and the 'Boks this morning. The Boks cemented the Tri Nations with a win in NZ and well deserved too. They dominated early on and it looked as though the ABs would not get near their line. With Francois Steyn kicking points from his own half the Blacks had no room for manoevre and the Boks had them well contained, dominating the lineout and the breakdown.
In the second half the ABs changed their midfield and punched a few holes, but it was too little too late. The Boks have confirmed their status as best in the world.

Another win for Wasps and another 2 tries for Varndell now he is playing in a decent team! Could this possibly be a good start for the 'Pests!'???!!!
