What to hydra?

My present sistem is
CD5/P25/GSP ERA Gold/202/200/napsc/ES14.
I was advised to go for the hydra thing, ie connecting up multiple power leads to a common supply? Should I do for all of the cd5, p25, GSP, 200 and Napsc? Or should I only do it the naim equipment and leave out the p25 and GSP?

My advice would be not to get the hydra, but to get multiple dedicated spurs (and a dedicated consumer unit if funds allow)....IMHO and experience, running your whole rig through one wall socket (+1plug+1fuse) is a real dead-end route

I've got an LP12, CD3.5/HiCap and Tuner all running off one socket with a DIY Hydra (using the Maplin Multiway plug) and it works just fine. The Nait-3 is plugged into the second socket of the MK twin outlet on its own. It's certainly an improvement on the 4-way strip that preceded it, even though it's running off the ring-main and it's much tidier.
If you're not able to install a separate spur, it's a excellent interim solution. I believe the separate Consumer Unit and dedicated spur for each item is probably overkill unless you're determined to squeeze the very last ounce out of you setup. One dedicated spur is probably more than good enough in most cases.

From what you say above you accept that improvement is possible with more than one spur over just a single spur. Whether it is a big improvement or marginal is another argument. It is a one off cost and it provides a greater opportunity for your system to show what it can do.

Terry,
Personally I suspect that multiple dedicated spurs probably have something to offer when the system is pretty much all top-of-the-range kit. With more modest systems I suspect there would be little or no benefit.
I'm prepared to be persuaded by an appropriate demo, but until then I believe if Silklee is looking to spend a few hundred pounds he'd be better off investing it in a Hi-Cap for the CD5.

Hi Bjorne,
The ES14 seems to have been freed up the 200. Much better control in the highs and mids, and also a little of the bass. The bass boom problem in my room still exists but i think that is more due to the room problem, nothing to do with the speakers or the equipment.
My friend brought and SPL meter over and did some measurements. Seems like my room has BIG problems at certain frequencies. I heard him mention 80hz, 140hz, 180hz etc.
Lets hope i will hear more improvements as the 202 200 runs in. It is only 3 days old now.
