Headline

Hi All,

Thinking of getting a headline, and was wondering if it's posible to power it with my Supercap? (82 & the headline at the same time)

Cheers,

Mark.

Would any one think it a worthwhile upgrade to go for a new Headline. I have one of the first ones off the production line. Old one seems fine to me, powered by a Hi-cap.

Alex,

Is that right?

I was told i could power headline and 252 from my superduper....

AITO i'm using a hicap but was planning to try the super???

Dobbin,

With the NAC 252 (or NAC 52) you can power the the Headline from the Supercap by using the powered Input 6 on the pre-amp.

Directly connecting the Headline to a Supercap which is also powering a pre-amp compromises the performance of both items and causes an earth loop. The earth loop may seem inaudible but sound quality will be impaired.

Richard,

Thanks for that...

Therefore I assume that powering my headline from my hicap (or other dedicated supply) is the ONLY real option.

In chatting to my dealer they couldn't say which of headline/hicap vs headline/super (shared w 252) would be better.

From what you say using option 2 would degrade both and certainly wouldn't give the best of the 252.

I think the dealers need better guidance.

Yes, nice spot Ross. Red face time for me. After a little chat with Roy I have discovered that there is an earthing issue with powering the Headline from the Alternative input 6 on the pre-amp (despite what the manual says...!). Red Face

Sorry guys but it's got to be separate power supply. Better that than compromise the pre-amp performance.

Richard,

I demand that you be severely reprimanded for such a gaffe.

I'm appalled!

I also assume that my Supercap that powers the Prefix cannot also be used to power the Headline (I suppose it could do for CD only if I disconnect the Prefix?).

Also, is the Headline affected by the power supply as other sources ie is it better to power it with a Supercap than with a Napsc?

I have the Headline on home dem at the moment and am comparing with the Rega Ear which I've had for a few days. First impressions with a Napsc show that there is not a big difference between the two. I haven't a special lead to compare the Headline powered by S/cap at present. Anyone else done a comparison?

Steve

Steve,

When I tried headphones, I ended up with the Stax Lambda Basic Mk2 Electrostatic. Well worth an audition. If you are in my locale you can pop over for a listen.

Thanks for the offer. How do you power the Stax. I bought some Grado's a couple of weeks ago so could swap them and the Rega Ear if the difference is noticeable.

Steve the Stax come with their own powersupply, so comparisons are easy.
