To Allae users out there...

Posted by: yaman on 05 January 2004

Hi all,

I am using my Allaes in open space (more than 1 meter away from the back wall and not close to any corner firing along the width of the room whose one adjacent side is open).

Although I am happy with the presentation, I feel that there is room for improvement and I would like to learn about other Allae owners' experiences and preferences.

I may be moving to a new house soon so I may be able to arrange a better listening room set-up based on recommendations.

Anyhow, I'll appreciate if you share your Allae set-up experiences.

Thanks in advance

I use Credos, which are similar in many design respects to the Allaes. My Credos are way out into the room too.

My comments are:

1. The open side of your room may cause an effect whereby the the image is 'pulled' to one side. Unfortunately you can't just counteract this with the balance control (although it can help a bit) because the effect is frequency dependent.

2. When away from walls, the toe-in of the Credos is *critical*. In my room the best toe-in is when the virtual centrelines of the speakers cross just behind me. Your mileage may vary.

3. The Credos are transformed by a solid plinth or base. NO ROCKING! I have a suspended wooden floor in my listening room and after much (and I do mean 'much') experimentation I ended up building my own multi-layered affair, with the platform on which the spikes rest being made of 3/4" plyboard, of all things. You can easily try things like marble or granite slabs, but for me they imparted what I can only describe as a midrange ringing, - perhaps an interaction with the Credo's leaf spring suspension?

4. Take a look at

For some placement ideas too.

Hope this helps.
