How far apart must Naim boxes be?
Posted by: Laurie Saunders on 16 February 2004
Some playing around with the (powered) boxes in my system (2x135s, Scap, Hicap, NAPST) over the weekend gave some surprising and encouraging results when I (temporarily) increased their seperation. ....I detected improvements(especially in timing) for up to 5 or 6 inches between the cases......I`m guessing that many racks(the Fraim?) don`t allow for this much....
I now have another problem.......the amount of valuable real estate my kit will take up in my listening room if I spread the boxes out
Are there any guidlines on the closest that boxes may be located to avoid what I assume is electromagnetic interaction between transformers in the varuious boxes?

LOL

Well I think it does but there is always room for improvement.
Tuners an interesting one, its 'brain' with a small transformer!!!

correct spacing and placement of equipment has always been the key to getting the best from Naim gear.
cable arrangement also comes into the equation, and nothing comes close to messing up the flow and groove of a Naim system than for example signal carrying leads fouling up on mains leads.
it's easy to lose what's best about the Naim sound if you're not careful. 10 mins spent getting it right pays dividends.

Tight boxes
A pic of my sweet-sounding system
( Karik3/32.5 with inline boards/2 x 110s/Hicap/Tukans ).
The system is old but it is beautiful with mellifluous tones.

absolutely correct
The cables between scap-135s seem particularly sensitive...they are (I believe) unscreened
I plan to so some more experiments with wooden supports having had a taste of of what wood did for my scap (or should I say...the sound after i placed wooden supports under my scap).
I have always had resevations about the "ring factor" of steel and glass.....my intuition would suggest thatmore "lossy" supports would be better....still the only way to find out is to try...damn this "black art"

The leads from my snaxo to my 250s are bit of mains leads!! Seems to work ok though
