Connecting Sky Box

Posted by: Angus on 08 February 2004

I need advice on the above because my tuner has given up and despite numerous visits to the repairers it cannot be fixed.

Instead of purchasing a new FM tuner I am considering connecting my sky box audio output to the tuner connection of my NAC82 but there are a number of questions I would wish to answer before doing so.

Firstly is it feasable and what are the results in terms of quality. Also I do not want to move any of my furniture arrangement so I would need an interconnect of about 8 metres. Is this feasable and sensible and will the sound be degraded by the length of the interconnect.

Lastly if all the above turns out positive what would be the best cable to use for the interconnect.

Can anyone help please.

I use a 6m 2 phono to Din(from Flashback Sales) from my AV amp (ArcamXETA2) to 72 the Sky box goes in to Xeta. It seems to work OK no nasty noises (hum/hiss type).Direct from Sky box to 82 should not be a problem I have done it as temporary measure once.Sound quality is OK but depends on which channel you are listening to. Some seem to do the FM tricks with pre-emphasis bass boost etc. I have it playing whilst on the PC usually planet rock Channel 851.
