ps3 log in problems

Posted by: scottyhammer on 25 April 2009

Hi all,

I cant seem to get my PS3 to go online..the problem started when i changed my router from a netgear wireless modem which the ps3 recognised no problem to aols thomson modem (big mistake) which the ps3 was not picking up - probably because the signal was weak. however i have now reinstalled the netgear modem back into the system but now the ps3 wont recognise it and i cant work out why? my pc has picked it up no problem but the ps3 refuses no matter what i do.
ive tried the auto setup without success now im contemplating the manual setup but i dont know what the DHCP or SSID are ? which its asking for.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated before i do the thing some damage !! grrrrr. Red Face

Hi, Scottyhammer

SSID is your own network connection name, use your Netgear Smart wizard to find it - it should be bottom left on the settings tab. I 'think' DHCP is your IP Address, which is also on the same tab.

ok, i still cant get logged on which is strange as it was doing so before..anyway can someone please point me in the right direction with these instructions which are being ask to fill in when the ps3 does an easy search for a modem.
SSID ? would this be the IP address where i log on at AOL ?

SSID

No idea what a PS3 is, but SSID is Service Set Identifier (it is not an IP address).

An SSID is the name of a wireless local area network - your home wireless LAN. All wireless devices on it must employ the same SSID in order to communicate with each other.

The SSID on wireless clients (your PS3) can be set either manually, by entering the SSID into the client network settings, or automatically, by leaving the SSID unspecified or blank. Some newer wireless hubs disable this capability to improve network security Eek

SSIDs are case sensitive text strings. The SSID is a sequence of alphanumeric characters (letters or numbers). SSIDs have a maximum length of 32 characters.
