Do I need a dedicated circuit?

Posted by: Greg787 on 17 May 2006

I just had an electrician by to give me a quote and, in spite of carefully explaining my objectives, he was dubious whether I'd gain anything with a dedicated circuit for my listening room. His reasoning: my place is small (i.e., not much on the line) and there's a lot of breakers for what's there. Thoughts? Does a dedicated circuit make more sense in bigger homes, for example?

Made a BIG difference to my system and only using 6mm wire.
House 30+ years old with fuses insteasd of breakers. Only 280m2, so certainly not large.

Even the sparky who did the job was very dubious when he did his first HiFi spur, but after hearing the results is totally convinced of the benefits.

Another bunus is that even the LP12 sounds better and it's NOT connected to the spur.

DO IT - you will have no regrets.

Yes.

The electrician who worked on my house said I was crazy and I said yes I am completely mad, but I'm paying so will you do it anyway. I'm glad I insisted.

Greg,
I put in a short run (6M) of 6mm to a 32amp breaker. It made no difference in my circumstance.

I had a separate spur put in. Made absolutely no difference to the sound but I did get extra sockets
