i want to install a separate mains spur for the system, but am confused as to what i have read.
i have got a new consumer unit just in case, but do i just run a length of twin and earth to the current fuse box or install this separate unit instead??

if you have already got a new consumer unit it would be better to install it.

Suggest you get an electrician to do the final connection to the CU and incoming supply.

Longmanjohn,
Forgive the statements of perhaps the obvious, but this is a job for a trained electrician.
You can either run a new spur from the existing consumer unit, assuming you have a spare circuit/breaker in your CU board to run it through. This is where the twin/earth is run from, in to the house.
Or you can install another consumer unit, which will need a 'tails' feed to it from the incoming mains feed - obviously, on the house side of the meter circuit.
But AFAIK you are not now allowed to touch this stuff, without being a qualified sparks?
Good/improved earthing is also said to improve Naim kit.
Forum rules preclude some aspects & general discussions on this topic - I would find a decent sparks and discuss things first, as the words in your post perhaps suggest a lack of appreciation of what's required (no disrespect intended).

no all comments are appreciated. i mainly wondered if there was any better benefit to either using the current mains or using a separate rcu
