I've read on here some where that there are two types of black snaic.
How do i tell if i own the older or newer version?

If the SNAIC is black then it's the latest version. Earlier ones were grey - don't confuse these with the Interconnect which connects source components to Pre-amps, this has always been grey/lilac-grey.

before your time, I believe, but I understand a small number of black SNAICs and Burndys were sent out before a "tweak" to the soldering technique was discovered.
