For the married (or divorced).....

Inspired by garyi's recent thread about the favourite love song, I thought......
What was the first song / musical piece played at your wedding ? (more than one entry allowed for serial cake-munchers !)
Mine - Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton

Registry Office followed by a Reception on a boat on the Thames so not the conventional musical arrangements.
Don't know why it was selected - probably not by us - but it was "Living in America" by James Brown. Good groove, though.

Believe it or not, the DJ played Billy Idol's "White Wedding" as background music during dinner. What a hoot!

Walking up the aisle involved some flute/piano thing that I forget.
But the first song at the reception was "Fairies Wear Boots" by Black Sabbath, played by a Rhode Island brass and wind ensemble (by request, obviously).

Apocryphal story (but true) about the couple who wanted the 'theme from Robin Hood' (i.e. Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by Brain Adams), and the organist played 'Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen...'

At the wedding, Jerimiah Clark - Trumpet Voluntary
Some old hymns, Love Divine etc.
Mendleshonn's Wedding March
At the do, I did some mix tapes #, with Zapp, Afrika Bambaataa, Funkapolitan, Chic, Donna Summer, Human League, M. Jackson, ABC, Abba, Bowie, other 80's pop
I must see if I can find the tapes...
Those where the days!

We walked out to the Fatboy Slim remix of Psyche Rock by Pierre Henry. It's a big beat tune that samples wedding bells, and at the time (1997) we were still going to Big Beat Boutique alot.

We walked down the aisle to "Naked Stalk" by Michael Hedges, and our first dance was to "My Baby Just Care For Me" by Nina Simone. It was pretty difficult to come up with something that we both liked that was suitable for the occasion. This was the only song that the DJ played from our request list so we refused to dance for the rest of the night.
My brother played in a band called "Dirty Dirty" whose theme tune was "Cocaine", they were once asked to play at a wedding (a Biker friend of the band was marrying some posh girl). Of course they were asked to tone their act down a bit so the lead singer didn't consume his usual Fly Agaric mushroom before the performance and they played "Asparin" instead of "Cocaine"! (they were also well known for deafening gigs - they used to use a 3.5Kw PA with miked drum kit etc for pub gigs)

That'd be the version I'd rather hear Cool as...
I'd probably have "Don't marry her fuck me" by the Beautiful South on the way in, followed by "Devil woman" on the way out, since if I ever find someone I'd want to spend the rest of my life with, it wouldn't be done with a marriage thanks.

We had Terry Clarke's "Back to the Well" and Ron Kavana's "Midnight on the Water".
Some friends of mine had another friend sing the Nick Cave song "Into My Arms" at their wedding - the one that starts "I don't believe in an interventionist God". In a Catholic church. Ahem.
