Welcome Back. What's Next?

Posted by: Naimed-In-NY on 08 August 2003

As the Naimsters make their way back from the summer shut-down, after completing what probably is the largest (and most successful?) new product roll-out in company history, the insatiable Naimiacs have just one question - what's next? What new products are we likely to see over the next 12 months or so? It sounds like a Reference Series tuner is in the offing, and I saw a thread not too long ago about a possible Naim DVD player. Is a subwoofer next? A SACD player? An upgraded speaker cable?

In the absence of an official response, I'd be interested in seeing some educated predictions by the forum's wisest sages, preferably accompanied by predicted names and price ranges.

A watch, for about £2000. The Na W01 will be black with a green display (switchable, of course). It will be a designer statement for the twenty first century, with miltary spec timing chip, pitch accurate ticking, the very latest micron-scale "Virtually Everywhere" (TM) integrated speaker system and a high definition wrist band.

Wait a moment - ops - sorry, wrong company Cool

Chris Thomas keeps on dropping hints about cable.

Yes, I have noticed that as well.

To echo another thread here, I'd really like to see a programmable* remote like a simplified Pronto or MX700 (obviously setup from the factory for Naim gear).

Cheers,
Simon

* by programmable I mean able to be connected to a computer and the layout reworked, not just learning new IR codes.

Can we expect new speaker cable, interconnects or both? NACA 6 (or is that an unlikely number somewhere)? I predict we'll see the NAT 501 or 551, the new reference tuner before the end of the year. I'd predict the cost, but I know it'll already be higher than what I want to spend. Frown But, perhaps it will lead to good second-hand buys on the NAT 05 and/or lead to NAT 01s coming onto the market. Smile

Hmm - I can't see that myself. Philips/Marantz have a mature product range that does the job well. I don't think Naim would come in at the right price.
