Richard Branson - interview Jonnie Walker R2
Posted by: antony d on 03 July 2006
travelling back from my Son's cricket match on Sunday I was listening to the excellent Radio 2 DJ Jonnie Walker - he was interviewing Sir Richard Branson (VIRGIN GROUP) ref various projects - one of which really caught my imagination -
12 World elders who would act as a peace council for world disputes - Iraq, Afaganistin, Israil etc etc - He had Nelson Mandella signed up to persaude Sadam Hussain to leave Irag prior to the great umpleasentness - Whilst this may be a very simple approach are n't they allways the best - 12 world reknown people who could try and intervine with disputes with out a political agenda -
Thought it would be a good thread to come up with the 12 on the forum -
for me (in no order)
Mandella, Desmond Tuto, Sir Bob Geldof, Sir Robert Winston, Kofi Anan, Paul Maca,
Discuss

All of the above (Lord Winston is an inspired choice imo)plus HH the Dalai Lama and Dr. Jonathon Miller.

A jury of our peers,
Twelve men good and true,
It takes but one to be corrupt,
Which leaves us with a pile of pooh!
I cannot think of twelve. Some worthy candidates aready quoted. Maybe Branson himself?
Then again they could give Mick extra voting rights.

Casting vote for our Mick.

Jeremy Paxman.
Each and every member of this council would have to succesfully persuade Jeremy that their proposed course of action was sound before being allowed to impliment it.
Cheers

I would add Mikhail Gorbachev for his visionary approach to the list.
"We need a new system of values, a system of the organic unity between mankind and nature and the ethic of global responsibility"
Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev.

A noble idea, but I can just imagine the press conferences now.
All the senior advisors would get free virgin pensions, whilst being poured virgin bloody cola by virgin cabin crew in front of the cameras, all communication would be by virgin phones. The peace uniforms would be virgin t-shirts,make up courtesy of virgin cosmetics, & if bush & hussein ever kissed & made up, they could wear virgin wedding dresses, & flown on their honeymoon by, well, you get the idea.
And every single meeting/photo-shoot would have the bearded grinner in every shot, making geldof & bono look shy by comparison.
Not that I for one minute am suggesting that he is self-serving, of course.
Branson saves the world?? Bloody tubular bells!!
matt.

I would vote for Keith Allen, just to watch him taking the piss out of all the pompous twats.
