Tosca - Different Tastes of Honey

Posted by: Rico on 04 March 2002

Anyone got this yet? I saw it on saturday, and exercised unusual restraint in not buying it. Is it any good?

So if you have it - is it better than Chocolate Elvis?

Thing is I found Chocolate elvis complete crap against Toscas Suzuki album (i think thats what its called) So that may be worth your looking at as well.

The question is "how many times did you listen to Chocolate Elvis?". I was initially disappointed but suddenly saw the light after 3 listens all the way through.

Also look out for Fila Brazillia's new album called "Jump Leads". I haven't got it yet, but soon will.

Most confess after a frenzy of amazon buying I have only got round to listening to chocolate elvis once, so I guess I should revist.

Jump Leads is awsome, its as simple as that. track after track demands that you sit up and listen, particular stand out one is track 4, great stuff, I have ordered practically the whole back catlouge off of this one album. Those that are interested should check out amazon where a selection of fila can be yours at 5.99 a pop, and in my opinion not one of them is a runt.

Hi there,

I saw this CD in Virgin last Sat, I thought they have any other new album after 'Suzuki' and 'Suzuki dub'. Then I found out that it's only remixes of 'Honey' from Suzuki album, it's hardly the best track on the album, I have no clue why they chose it. The good thing is I didn't get it at Virgin, then I found it at a record shop near to my office, which sell quite a lot of promo copy, I got it for GBP 3.- (papar cover - promo copy), it may worth a lot of money in the future, I got so many promo-copies, including Peace Orchestra, which is much better DTOH, as garyi said Suzuki is definitely better, and it is nothing compare to K&D sessions. Perhaps some of you guys should try Waldeck. Roughly listened to Chocolate Elvis, not impressed, but the 1st EP is good, plus Opera.

Did anyone got K&D's remix for Madonna? I think it's nothing really matter, I got it, it is not bad. Also Groove Armada's remix for 'Music', still OK, not as good though. Try to get hold of Zero 7's remixes. Groove Armada remix a band called Language Lab (I think) is very good too.
And try Freedom Satellite's 'Soul Samba, remixed collection', it's very Tosca.

Did any of you have Alpinstar's B.A.S.I.C.? They said they are AIR alike, I bought their new singles 'Snow Patrols', it's more like 80's, let me know if you have this album, thanks.

Final word, IMO, if you have other CD you want to buy, get them rather than this one. ie. Zero 7's Another Late night.

cheers
Martin

Yea I got another late night on vinyl from Amazon last week, its rather good.

I am currently listening to a late night which is Fila Brazilla remix, this is quite nice as well, although I have so much music to listen too right now its all rather daunting!

John, what are you on about?

If you are saying you don't like this music look at another thread roll eyes

Sorry - I should have mentioned, I already have Opera, Suzuki, and Chocolate Elvis. I declined on Suzuki in Dub. I also have K&D Dj Kicks, and The K&D Sessions. far from being a completist, I was wondering if the HOney remixes would be worth a go.

Seems Jump Leads is a must have.

Get Suzuki in Dub, personally my favourite.

Mind you that could be because I paid NZ$60 for the privilege of having it on vinyl. Actually it must rate as the most infuriating triple albums with some sides recorded @ 45rpm and other sides @ 33rpm. Truely infuriating with a P25 as you have to lift the plater off to change speeds. Oh and try and see the speeds in dim light because they're etched into the vinyl.

Appart from that it's great.

I've just ordered the Honey thing as well from Smoke, should get it tomorrow. I'll give you a run down.

If you haven't alreay pick up Chem Bros latest, very impressive (thanks for the rec Garyi).

That's strange, the version I have is on four slabs of vinyl, all at 33rpm.

Thanks for that Jay!

No wonder I never got on with this album. red face Never noticed the speed markings in the inner groove. Playing it now at the right speed, much nicer. big grin

They're playing at the Concorde and if you feel like going tickets are £10. Be prepared to stay up till at least 3am. If you speak to a very nice young lady on 01273 772 770 she will let you have some.

For our international brethren they are also doing a few gigs in the US of Eh (TM JPetrik)and Canada. Check out the dates @ http://www.23online.co.uk/filabrazillia/live.html

The Groove Armada remix for Language Lab is the track named "Burning Disaster". I've got it and it's great! Nothing like the original, but much better!

LOL - sorry John I've just had a good laugh. I think the only reason that I knew was because I had the CD which still didn't stop me from listening to side a @ 33rpm when I first got it! Jay

Scored that in Sydney - I like it, although find it much more chilled than the others. My bro-in-law found it particularly useful for settling my 2 year-old niece into a fitful sleep! My 2 y.o. nephew will not ride happily in the car without Fatboy Slim's second album. What are these kids gonna be listening to at 18? confused

I saw Different Tastes of Honey on vinyl at Real Groovy for circa NZD65 (gulp). Weighed a ton, suspect it's many sides also.

NZ$65 on vinyl I assume?

I'm glad my CDX sounds better than my P25 - I got the CD for NZ$26.95+P&P!

Rico, I highly recommend sola rosa if you don't have it already - 2 albums - solarised and entrance to skyway. You'd be supporting NZ music as well.

John, Jay, great stuff.

Reminds me of a New Age Steppers EP/album I played at 33rpm for years and really enjoyed. When I discovered it should be 45rpm and played it at the right speed it sounded really crap.

I had Solarised, and liked it very much. Must obtain another copy. I preferrred it to Zero 7 (although I guess they're a little different, was just introduced to both at same time).

Is Entrance to Skyway earlier or later??

Oh dear, it seems my CD list is growing once more. frown

SPeaking of 45 RPM, I scored (very happily, I might add) a pristene double vinyl copy of The Stone Roses some yeas ago. It was very soon after I had scored my LP12/Valhalla. Imagine my surprise to find it was a 45rpm pressing... I had to wait for 4 years (and the acquisition of a Lingo) to enjoy that album. Talk about antici-p-ataion! big grin

Rico - SM/Mullet Audio

Posted on: 06 March 2002 by Alex S.
Why did you wait 4 years for a Lingo when you could have used the 45rpm adaptor ring in 4 minutes? Just wondering.

Alex

Posted on: 06 March 2002 by Rico
Alex

I have it on good authoity that use of a 45 rpm adaptor ring screws up the suspension on an LP12, and is a *bad idea*. Changes of belt height on the spindle and ensuing tension changes is one area where the LP12 is "sensitive".

Additionally, the T/T and vinyl went in to storage for 3.5 years soon after acquisition of said vinyl.

Others would just have gone out and bought the CD. Me? I scored a couple of further ep's from the album.
