SONY RDR-HXD860

Posted by: Martin C on 04 May 2007

Hi there,

It's been a while, I bought the Sony RDR-HXD860 for a couple of months, it seems a very good and caplable DVD player and recorder.

But the loading is just very annoying comapre to other sony DVD player (I used one before). When you switch on, it takes a while (more than 30 seconds) to be ready, it can't be right. Also to eject the tray for loading the DVD, you have to wait for another 30 seconds or so.

Any of the naimee out there is using this and let me know whether my one is faulty.

Thanks
Mart

I have one and it's the same.

I'm used to it now but I agree, it is a pain.

Martin,
Even my 910 behaves inm the same manner, plus it will occasionally, flash the green play symbol at random chapter boundaries.
But I agree, i ain't too bad a replacement for a VCR...

Thanks Steve & Pete for your replies. So my 860 is not faulty at least. As I used the SONY DVD player before, it wasn't like that. In fact, I think I have never come across a CD or DVD player, the loading is that slow. Perhaps the 1st ever SACD player, the heavy monster, wasn't it from Sharp? Can't remember.

I thought about to get 910 before, then I forgot about it, then got 860. The quality is not bad overall.

cheers
Martin

The problem is the hard disk boot-up.

Compare the start-up time to a PC, and you will understand. These machines come-up in an incredibily short time span for what they are doing.

I would say STOP bitching but that would be rude.

sony have brought out three new hdd/dvd recorders (introduced 13 june): RDR-HXD970B, RDR-HXD870S and RDR-HXD970B. the 970B model has a bigger hard drive and all feature some other nice features. see here.

as someone looking to get one i hope that these issues have been resolved with these new machines!
