Confused

I must be getting old. I understand stereo, I have built a nice surround system (AV2) and I can even set at Linn LP12 up properly. BUT I am totally confussed when it comes to multy room stystems DACs etc. HELP, where do I start. Does anyone out there know of some reading material that would shed some light on this sort of stuff. I know I should approach a dealer but a little bit of understanding is required to stop me looking a complete idiot. I do idiot well, but I don't want to be considered a complete one.
Thanks in anticipation.

Don,
I am in the same place as you. I have a Naim stereo system DVD5, HiCap/82/250.2 and a HP Pavilion laptop. How I link the two and get my music around the house is confusing for me to. Sonos, NAS, harddrives DB Power something or other, foolbar ????!!!!! Please could someone make it very simple, but at the same time, need to keep the sound quality. I too would like to become an itellegent customer like you.

Hi Don & Flojoe -
If you go to the Sonos web site, and click on "How It Works", there are lots of different topics to read about (wireless, multi-room, how to store and access your music, setup, etc.).
The mother of all primer web sites is called howstuffworks. If you go there, and search for, say, DAC or sound card or streaming audio, you will find some easy-to-follow articles.
If you would rather read a book on computer audio, there are a number of choices on Amazon. Beware of the book's date though. Will do you little good to read about the state of the art of computer-based music in 1998!
Good luck.

Dear Confused of London...
To be honest, I'm not surprised all this multi-room talk confuses you.
It really depends what your aim is ... are you wanting to just add a computer to eliminate piles of CDs and a DAC, or do you want to be able to access all your music in several rooms? If multiple rooms, what quality are you looking for in the other rooms? If looking for mid-quality multiple room then Sonos and Squeezebox tend to be the way to look, for high-quality then either Linn DS or NaimNet would be good recommendations.
Not sure I really know of many basic how-to websites, but you may find some of the information in the Computer Audiophile Academy section of
www.computeraudiophile.com useful. Malcom Stewart's
http://www.computer-audio.info/ looks like it might head off in the "useful information' direction.
