Placebo - Sleeping with ghosts

Got this on Canadian import which plays fine on my Arcam but skips 8sec into each track on the CDS2. Play.com have offered to refund me if I return it but is the UK version protected too or can I get away without getting the chip update yet for this one CD

Hi Bosh
The Australian pressing has copy protection too. I heard today that the US pressings don't have copy protection because their law allows copying for personal use? True/false?

Apart from the glitches, is it any good? I've got the rest of Placebo's albums and prefer "Without You I'm Nothing".

I have only just got chance to listen to it extensively as I have been away and the doorstep was covered in Amazon/Play jiffys when I got back
Not having heard any of their other stuff I would agree with Alex on this one (except my copy was £8). The Petshopboysesque vocals on some tracks can grate at times but a reasonable/good album nevertheless

I got the same disk from play.com and the same happened on my CD5. I returned it and got a refund.
The UK version is fine as it is NOT copy protected, £9.99 from Sainsburys.
Am looking forward to seeing them live next week.

Did I read about a software upgrade available from Naim that allows playing of protected CDs

Got the UK pressing today which is not protected and is better sound quality than the Canadian protected one
[Interestingly its only the CDS2 that cant cope with the protected version, even the CD2 copes]

I had the same problem with a copy protected version of this CD on my Hi-capped CD3.5. It seems to be Virgin Records who may be using the protection system, as I had the same problem with a copy protected version of the latest massive attack CD, both of which were purchased from Cd-WoW. I asked CD-WoW if they intended to publish when particular Cd's were in fact copy protected. They said they would, but that was two months ago. For your info Audiostreets CD's are uk sourced and don't have protection on, but they are not as cheap....so ya pays ya money etc
