Uniti/Unitiqute - interface and control

This is an attempt to highlight and pick up on the interface/control issue that is scattered across postings about these devices. What users (well me anyway)would like to achieve is a nice clear means of controlling and seeing what is playing etc via an iTouch, iPhone or iPad (possibly other devices - but I have these). Some people like to keep the Sonos or Squeezebox implementation. Naim have a (costly) app - one for the iPad would be good - but experiences of users appears mixed.
So is there a space for what has worked for you - and how and/or what we would like to have - in the hopr that someone will take the hint?

I've followed the posts on here and tried most of the suggestions (excluding anything Apple) and not come up with anything that fully suits me. Foobar, media player, XMBC, playback stream capture et all. Most seem to work most of the time but I haven't found one that is stable and reliable.

All I'd really like to do is ....

and see the Uniti display on my laptop and control it just like I do on the remote. Can't be too difficult surely !
