Compact Digital Cameras

Chaps

Mrs Mick is in the habit of carrying a small compact camera in her handbag just so she can take a snap at some convenient moment.

Her camera has just conked out and it is uneconomical to repair it.

She would like to try a digital camera and I was hoping for some expert advice as to the best model.

The camera must be small, light in weight, have a zoom lens and be dead easy to use.

Any suggestions.

Regards

Mick

I don't go out my way to be liked on this forum. There are far too many ill mannered people here with egos.

I'll help Mick and Derek and a few others.

38mm landscapes and digital

The greater the angle, the greater the amount of detail that is required to be captured and hence theoretically the greater the number of pixels required to handle the data. The pixel count of the small digi cam may work against sweeping landscape pictures with lots of data.

:sweeping statement on.
To maximise benefit of a wa lens in a landscape try and get an object close to the lens to give a sense of drama or contrast with the view in the background
:sweeping statement off.

I'll always help Fritz aswell. If he is unemployed, there lies a huge amount of wasted talent.

Just off to catch a flight to Rome in a couple of hours. Going to take my coolpix 8400 and should get some great wide shots of the Colosseum. I might post a couple when I get back. Nigel would have to take 3 shots and stitch them together hahahaha.

Wish me all the best Nigel.

Thanks for the recommendations, I don't spend as much time on the pc now a days as I seem to spend a lot of time on the train. So apologies if you thought I could not bother to reply.

Just a quick update to let you know that I gave Mrs Mick a free hand in choosing the camera and she came up with the Canon Ixus 40 which is shown below

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd300/

She bought a 512 memory card which I presume is adequate for her needs. She only uses it for casual snaps.

The Nikon 8400 was too bulky for her.

Many thanks for your advice.
