HDX / iPod Touch

Posted by: Klout10 on 17 September 2010

Hi,

At the moment, I'm controlling the HDX remotely with my laptop. Everything works fine, but when sitting on the sofa I want to use something smaller. Has anybody experience with the Naim app for the HDX on an iPod Touch?

I don't have an iPod at all, so I need to purchase one in order to get any experience. Any recommendations/ things to take into account? Size of memory, software versions etc.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this stuff...

Any coments are welcome!

Regards,
Michel

Works great ( simple, intuitive, obvious) but recent s/w update (which means it now covers both n-serve and HDX) seems to cut battery life and it requires much more frequent charging. But, that could be the addition of n-stream app, that I recently added to cover the Qute.

Agree with Geoff - in fact, I prefer using the app on my Touch to either the web or dtc if I am just listening - really nicely designed for ease of use. Only drawback (apparently to be addressed in the future) is that you can't control playlists from it, but other than that, first rate.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your replies. Got myself an iPod Touch today, connected it to my system and installed the Naim app.

This works really great! It's a joy to use, sooo user friendly!

This battery life issue is most likely noticeable now because you are using it more often?

The best help for battery life is screen brightness. Set it to about 1/4 to 1/3 and you will see your battery life jump dramatically.

Also, turn off bluetooth, turn off notifications, once every few months run the iPhone done until it shuts itself off. Then FULLY recharge for a good 4 hours (or overnight). This resets the battery "meter" and ensures a full charge and longterm life of the battery.

I get about 2 days out of my iPhone 3G and 4 with constant use. I use it all day for phone and email, then at night for phone and Foobar control. Plus mix in some web page checking and a game of Doodle Jump or two.

If you are using higher than 33% on your brightness, turn it down and you will see huge results.

Lastly, dont use the automatic brightness feature.

If you are in bright sun and need to use the phone, simply turn it up while needed.

After a few days of use I must admit I hardly use anything else than the iPod to control the HDX.
