Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Posted by: tam92 on 19 May 2005
Much to the consternation of my co-workers, I took the day off to view the latest installment of the Star Wars saga. Of the films in the most recent trilogy, Episode III is by far the best. For the visual effects alone it is worth seeing the movie.
The story is good, though some of the acting may leave a little to be desired. Overall, it is a very enjoyable film.
Just getting out of work for the day to see an afternoon movie is worth it.

Still doesn't necessarily make it good.

True and all, but I'm still going to see it for the visual effects and the grand vistas (vistii, vista's ? ).
I like spaceships too.

Miserable sod
It is a good film OK. So it's not ARTHOUSE or any of that other crap. My only complaint is that there may be TOO much on the screen at one time. The opening firefight is mind blowing(numbing?).
I have not been so excited waiting for a film and it did not disapoint.
Well done George keep counting those dollars.
A animated series next followed by a TV series(real actors) featuring some of the minor characters.

I only took the afternoon off, better than the last and a good job of linking it back to the first Star Wars but Lucas seems to have forgoton how to tell a story.
Worth seeing but not a 'great' by any means

Yes and passive biamping Neat speakers might make it better, but not necessarily good.

They lost me at Jar-Jar.
I won't be back. My kids can see it but as for me, I'd rather have minor surgery than torture myself with the loss of a great story and movie franchise (i.e. the "first" one was best, the rest were just to sell toys).

There was a magic - an innocence? - that was lost with the 2nd trilogy. Then again, those of us of an age to have seen the original theatrical release of Star Wars may not be objective (the same way that, for me, the Beatles can never be bettered). Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing Episode III this weekend.

It's difficult to believe that both sets were done my Lucas. I understand this is a 'wrap up' which brings everything together and explains everything. Does Episode III explain the racism in I and II?

No the first one was to sell toys too. Thats why George gave the studio back some percentage and took the marketing rights instead.

First is always the best. Remember the first Indiana Jones movie.
The problem is that expectations are too high and rarely attained.
Still this is a series that spans the generations. I have visions of my Great grandchildren etc etc watching with enhanced effects to what we see today. Or do you think that it will become old hat??

Not necessarily Lomo.
I think that of the 'first' Star Wars Trilogy many remember 'The Empire Strikes Back' as being the superior film of the three.
And as regards Indiana Jones, I thought 'The Last Crusade' was pretty good too!
Cheers,
Jon

Star Wars was never a "great story" as much as a cliche ridden, morality tale / fairy story albeit one with cool spaceships and aliens. Good fun for many, obviously, but its basically just a lightweight space opera romp.
Personally I never liked it as its all so bloody humourless and even as a 10 year-old in teh cinema found it rather dull. Indeed, I've never actually seen the whole of the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in one sitting although I seem to have absorbed the plots by osmosis and partial viewings.

Thanks for your comments Jon, and you may well be right.
The way we view films is certainly a subjective one and deservably so. That is why when I go to the movies these days I prefer to go alone, you only have to please yourself and if the bloody thing is no good you can safely walk out.
speaking of which a mate of mine went to see "Troy" recently; the movie had started so he found a seat in the dark and when the lights went up found he was the only one in the theatre. With tongue in cheek he said how he appreciated them running the show just for him.

Saw it last night. Very disappointing. To use the forum vernacular, it's "all hifi and no music".

"Empire..." is the best story, but the worst of the first trilogy in my opinion - it doesn't flow properly, and is less watchable. I have the 3 on Laserdisc though (sod the DVD until the LD player packs up). I own Episode 1 on crapovision as well, but thought 2 was fairly w*nk.
He he - Indiana Jones - well, they're all good, but the best IMHO *IS* "The last crusade" - seems to be better put together with nice dark humour - especially "NO TICKET!"
Hoping to see "Revenge of the syphillis" this weekend so will comment back then...

Not Matthew,
I think you need to try a spellchecker, as your post contained several spelling and grammatical errors which need to be corrected for it to be fully understandable.

Just seen it. Utter crap. Utter, utter, utter crap.
Great special effects do not produce a great movie. I'd hate to insult all the trees in the world by saying the acting was wooden but if the acting had been half as good as "wooden" I would have been happy. I nearly fell asleep near the end.

just seen it also and very dissapointed with it. The first 3/4 of the film is utter drivel, no direction, too much chopping and changing.
After that it livens up a bit and gets some direction, but unfortunately it was too little too late. Don't want to discuss too much more in detail as yet since some on here have yet to see it.
