What's your favourite al*** of cover versions?

Posted by: Jonn on 26 October 2010

Just been listening to "Great Expectations" by the Jolly Boys with covers of songs from artists as diverse as Blondie, New Order, Stranglers, The Stones, Ami Whitehouse and Lou Reid.
The best album of cover versions I've heard in a long while.

Any other contenders?

I thought we had a thread very similar to this just a few weeks ago, anyway:

Two acoustic covers albums by Mark Kozelek, the first 'What's Next to the Moon' under his own name is an album of gentle covers of early AC/DC tracks (Bonn Scott era), 'Tiny Cities' as Sun Kil Moon has covers of Modest Mouse tracks.
His other albums as the above, or in The Red House Painters have tracks covering artists as diverse as The Cars, Stephen Sondhiem, Kiss, Yes and Paul McCartney.

I'm not a big fan of covers albums but for me this works a treat. I have played it a lot since its' release - just love it.

As a side note I had a ticket to see her in Manchester on Tuesday night, but got caught up in the most horrendous traffic after an accident on the M56 (I moved 1 mile in 1 hour 20 minutes) and so missed the show. I had been looking forward to it since March, quite gutted really. Frown

The soundtrack album to a movie called 'I Am Sam' contains covers of Beatles songs by various artists. Very good.

Johnny Cash's final 'American' recordings were all rather special, with startling choices of songs on each.

Munch!

Thank you, thank you and once more thank you....

I had never heard of Kate Walsh until your post and I doubt if I had come across her in HMV or wherever she would have occupied more than one tenth of a moment of my time. As I type this she is singing to me thanks to Spotify.

I shall get the album.
