What's happening with the forum?

Posted by: Flame on 15 July 2010

Hi guys;

I know this section of the forum is more quiet and mostly visited by the more seasoned forum members. For that reason I ask, what is happening lately to the forum? I have noticed a recent increase in hostility in several threads. Regardless of whether there was a trigger to such violent mood or not, it is sad to observe this on the forum.

One of the best features about the Naim forum is the laid back, friendly and mature nature of the members. I hope we don't loose that.

Regards...

This may take several posts as the phone is playing up but, Mick, here is the problem.

1) Drop the word "chaps". It is offensive in it's way as drivel that offends you. It alienates some male and female posters and others who night consider doing so.

2) Yes, their posts are in many, many cases banal, trite drivel. Such people are highly amused by their wit and attract a small but vociferous bunch if followers. The latter are not as great in number as you and they would think and soon bottle it if sufficiently challenged. They'll soon move on. However, you're asking us to follow you in challenging them and that isn't what you've done. You've generally walked away.

3) Hang around, debate, contribute and you'll see there are many like minded people. My experience on other forums is that those who post endlessly and are amuses by their own wit soon tire of the sort of challenges they throw down to others if you stay in the tent rather than do your work outside.

4) I think you have to be realistic. Your assertions about the forum are subjective and not open to verification. It's a perception and no more. It is undoubtedly one of many.

Please see my earlier post on how forums work and are perceived. It may cast further light on the above perspective.

Advancing the playground argument of "he did it first" kind of sums up the issue. Who did what to whom first is irrelevant. Whether there was some justification is the issue if you want down that route.

I suspect people are beginning to draw their own conclusions.

'Chaps and Chapettes' might be a good alternative.

Anything, within reason, might be a good alternative.

Might I ask how this sentence makes sense to you Mike?

How is someone else's correspondence your business?

Are you a recently promoted forum referee?

Truly. I'm intrigued. Seems rather arrogant to me. The action of a man full of himself. Or something else?

I'm also certain Mick is quite able to fight his own corner should he choose.

Still. nice to know the forum has a champion in the form of Mike Galahad Lacey.

Hugs, Paul.
Mongo,
You might want to look back at Parrys posts.
He started picking on Big H WAY BACK.
NOT THE OTHERWAY ROUND. Roll Eyes

Hi Stu.
Yeh, I know. It's hard to miss Mr Parry's erm....civilised posts.

The reason for this one was to find out why Miss Laceypants thinks it's his business.

Howards a fine chap I believe, just gets on with it.
Cheers, Paul.

I very much hope that Mick will never stop beginning his posts with the word "Chaps". If people are upset by that, they'll undoubtedly be twice as upset by the rest of most of his posts anyway.

Me Too. I think it's quite endearing, in an old etonian type fashion.

I now despair for this board. Man.

Mike,

Gosh, how rude you are. I always think of him as Mister lloyd and the other one as Mister Befuddley - one must have certain standards.

This thread is well past its sell by date.

Perhaps a Twitter account could be set up for the trivial posts.

Or perhaps Facebook could be used for the random brain ejaculations favoured by some of the members that enjoy using heterographs to cause confusion to members who read the posts without mouthing the words.

So who decides what is trivial and what is "serious" or "important" ?

Mind you people might miss the use of smart arse words then. Eek

Stu you rotter

Your quoting of the self-congratulatory, snide little Mong O confirms my decision to put him on my "ignore" list.

He knows he is on my "ignore" list and I suspect puts his wee digs in because he knows I'll not see them or answer them. I expect it makes him feel big in a way that mere Werthers Originals never could. Would he address me in that manner to my face? No way.

Regardless of who started it, Howard does spend a lot of time moaning about Mick. He would be a lot happier ( and we'd see a lot less threadcrap ) if he put Mick on his "ignore" list.

It works.

Regards

There appears to be a horizontal learning curve going on. Had it occurred that Derek might just be sophisticated enough to be having a rise?

Even if he were serious, and its not for me to know, then he's making a valid point even if his assumptions about the levels of trivia on F'book and Twitter are based on media stereotype.

If people can't apply their own filters then it's up to mods to get tough and other posters to start reporting more. Perpetuating by more abuse of someone simply because they have a different view to your own and used a big word is little more than bullying.

As was pointed out earlier in the thread that's a level Munch resorted to with his 'he did it first' argument.

It's dangerous to look for patterns of behaviour online as we all invent online personas to a degree but you'd have to say right now that a good long look in the mirror is needed by more than a few people round here.

Was that patronising? Hell yeah! Smile

But then I am capable of knowing when I'm wrong Smile

Hi Mary Lacey.

Of course you don't ignore posts. You couldn't, far, far too uptight.

I'm 45, way off werther's age group.

Why do you think I would not say such things to your face, (whatever those things may be) Is it because I'm a coward, do you think?

Or do you consider yourself so uber intimidating?

My, but you were so scary in your post of yourself in fatigues carrying a weapon.

Really hard fu@*&@s don't need to advertise, little girl . And for god's sake Ignore my posts if you are going to, don't pretend.

I have to admit I did laugh out loud when I saw the photo, until I realised it meant you have a serious problem. That's how Moat types get started. Be seeing you in the tabliods before long then.

I've no doubt the mods will be along to protect you shortly, so don't fret.
Posted on: 28 July 2010 by Sniper
What is a Moat type?
Posted on: 28 July 2010 by Tarquin Maynard - Portly
Raoul Moat, some guy that shot his ex, killed her boyfriend and shot a Policeman before killing himself.

Pourquoi?

I am grateful for the info. I had never heard of him.

oops.

Perhaps we can have a 'who is on your ignore list' thread? That ought to be amusing.

Personally I don't have anyone on my list.
