What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I have the new one. I bought it at the same time as Wolfert Brederode which won the day for me. I will give it another spin and let you know.

Classy World Music from Habib Koite. Beautiful melodies, acoustic guitar and rhythm. Could appeal to Richard Bona fans. Recommended

I remember seeing Vinegar Joe (with Elkie Brooks & Robert Palmer) at Mile End Odeon (London E1). Looking at wikepedia it must have been in 1972/1973. I do remember Elkie's Big Hair and Roberts stage presence an both had great voices of course. Whats the album like?

Hi Denis,

I came across this in John (JN)'s rack. I used to have a couple of their albums (I think there were three) on vinyl. This is a compilation of the second and third. It's excellent.

This is not to be confused with Six Star General, the third album (cover is very similar). The current copy of that on Lemon records, is supposed to be just that, a lemon. Musically fine but a very nasty copy apparently. Avoid at all costs.

Elkie at her best, of course. Did she do her party piece when you saw them?

Steve,

Thanks for that, I'll investgate. Here is Elkie's "Big Hair" Smile

I do remember around this time other groups like Stackridge and Ace (which was Paul Carricks band). Just dusting off the old memory bank. I saw both of these at the Roundhouse in Dagenham, Essex.
