What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Very good choice, Droo. I hope that you like it.

Well Haim, I felt disappointed at first, but by the end of the CD I had come to my senses - it's an excellent album.

I started falling out of love with Charles Lloyd when I went to see him a few years ago at the Blue Note in New York. With Geri Allen and John Abercrombie it should have been a corker, however it was so unengaging that I left early for the comforts of the hotel.
The last two CD's, Sangam and Jumping the Creek left me rather cold as well. So I hope that this can stop the rot.
Charles Lloyd - Rabo De Nube![]()
Please, write back, because I'm also on my way to get this. Can't share a disappointing concert experience (unfortunately..), and the last two didn't upset me as I know they did upset you, but am waiting for soemthing "new" from CL...
cheers

Thought you might ask me. I got halfway through tonight and then decided I would prefer something else and put Porcupine Tree - We Lost the Skyline on instead.
Initial impressions on the first half are that it is worth a second listen when I am in the right mood for it. Will let you know when the time comes.
Cheers

World-Music
Gurrumul has a beautiful voice and sings the songs he has written in various Aboriginal dialects and in English. He plays right-handed strung guitars left handed and is blind since birth.
MilesSmiles,
Had a listen to this on MySpace. Sounds pretty good. Where did you buy it?
Cheers

Found it at Fish Records in Balmain today - great music and an excellent sounding CD.
You can get more info on the label's site -

Another CD from the library...
Scarlatti on the fortepiano - a tad perverse, but it really works!

Heard some of the samples, it sounds grand. He just seems to get better with age. What do you think?
