What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi Jamie - it's the only Orbital single I have a copy of, and very scratched - it's taken some abuse on some SL1210s in its time.
According to the site I took the picture from, the five minute sample on 2 Deep on the reverse is from their mum's cassette to help her stop smoking!
'Orbital II' (brown album), 'Snivilisation', 'In Sides' and 'Middle of Nowhere' are all superb, it is also well worth getting the 'Times Fly' EP and the 'Satan Live' EPs.
The last two albums, are not worth bothering with, and the Glastonbury live set doesn't really work for me, but I have nearly complete recordings of all the Glastonbury performances from the BBC broadcasts.
"Focus your attention on a spot, and when that spot has your full attention, take a deep breath... "
I have their first four albums - are any of the others worth checking out?

Messiah.
I always listen to it at Easter - usually twice.
Good Friday afternnoon should be free for a second and better effort when not tired, if I get round various seasonal jobs in the morning. It is wonderful, not being expected to work on the Holy Days! I am a lucky person!!!
George
PS: Sadly missed the Saint John Passion in Hereford Cathedral yesterday evening. Midweek is not good for it really. Shame though ...

Memories ROTF, you old rocker.
I saw him at Great Yarmouth at the Tower (Tiffanys) in about 1978. IIRC he had Steve Curry (ex T.Rex) on bass.

Superb - and her new album is even better. Everything about Karine gives that feeling she really cares. The packaging of the new album has a quality feel and the music is just great full of unexpected twists. Truly one of Britain's exceptional modern folk singer songwriters.

Well, I'm trapped at home with some bug I must have picked up on the plane.. Uuurgh! So I'm wrapped in a blanket on the sofa, Lemsip at the ready, and trying to get through e-mails on the computer.
One bright spot is that I have the system right beside me and it's given me an opportunity to listen to a few albums I bought a while back but never got around to playing.
One such is currently spinning on the LP12...
Sufjan Stevens, "(Come on feel the) Illinoise"
Well, even in spite of my rather congested state, it's the perfect album to make you feel just a little bit better!
