What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

It's a seasonal thing more than a religious one for me!

Songs from La Cage Au Folles! [Or whatever the film was with Ewan MacGregor in]. Quite an entertaining change!

This a really amazing record and my favourite new album since that one by the girl in the floppy hat and the last Rachel Unthank record. This is certainly up there with those gems. Faultlines was a fantastic debut, Scribbled In Chalk almost as good and this, This Earthly Spell is even better. What a lot of good music is coming out.
Not only is Karine's music wonderful, but there is an air of quality about everything she does: this album's packaging is superb, her web-site is very well put together - I must see one of her concerts.
If you go to Amazon.co.uk then you can listen to whole track gratis, Karine's web site has extracts from a;l the tracks - have a listen, you know it makes sense.

I received yesterday the latest disc from the Neal Morse. As a member of his "inner circle" you get demos, live recordings etc. If you are a 70s prog fan and haven't yet realised there are people still making music like that, check out Neal Morse and Spock's Beard. They've changed my life!

Nymph,
It's the CDP 7 46440 2 - Made in Holland.
It sounds great (allowing for the exaggerated stereo of the period). But I wouldn't call it compressed.
But then I've heard people complain about Beatles CDs before and wondered why. They can be better (as Love showed) and hopefully now that Macca has finished with La Mills, they will be re-released.
But if you think these are compressed you should try Springsteen's latest, or many other modern releases. Horrible.

Bobby Bland (If ever a name was a misnomer)
"Two steps from the Blues". What a voice.
